European Weightlifting Championships
European Weightlifting Championships is an annual event organised by the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF). It has been held since 1896. A separate event for women was held from 1988 to 1997, after which both championships have been held as one event. Zbigniew Tadeusz Kaczmarek (31 July 1946 – 15 May 2023) was a Polish weightlifter who competed in the 1972 Summer Olympics, in the 1976 Summer Olympics, and in the 1980 Summer Olympics. Sergey Arakelov
Sergey Alikovich Arakelov (russian: Сергей Аликович Аракелов, born 18 July 1957) is a retired Russian heavyweight weightlifter. Between 1978 and 1982 he won two world titles and set five world records: two in the snatch, two in the clean and jerk and one in the total. While competing at the 1979 World Championships Arakelov severely injured his shoulder and recovered only by 1982. He retired in 1983 due to another injury. After retiring from competitions Arakelov graduated in economics and served as a sports functionary. David Rigert
David Adamovich Rigert (russian: Давид Ада́мович Ри́герт; born 12 March 1947) is a retired Soviet weightlifter and weightlifting coach of Austrian ancestry. During his career he set 65 ratified world records and won an Olympic gold medal in 1976 and six world titles. In 1999 he was inducted to the International Weightlifting Federation Hall of Fame. Family and early years Rigert was the son of the Russian-German Adam Adamowitsch Rigert and Jelisaweta Rudolfowna Horn, and is Jewish. His grandfather Adam Rigert worked at the estate of Baron Rudolf Horn, an officer of the czar. Baron Horn's daughter Lisbeth married Adam Rigert's son Adam. During World War II his father was brought to the Ural Mountains as forced laborer, together with other Russians of German ancestry, and his mother and children were brought to North Kazakhstan. Péter Baczakó
Péter Baczakó (born 27 September 1951 in Ercsi – d. 1 April 2008 in Budapest) was a Hungarian weightlifter. He won a bronze medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics and a gold medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Overall Baczako won a total of 23 medals, including four gold, at world and European championships from 1973 to 1982. He spent his whole career at the Budapest club BKV-Elore, where he became a coach after he retired from competing. Peter Baczako died on April 1, 2008, in Budapest of cancer.
