George Porteous
George Porteous (April 7, 1903 – February 6, 1978) was the 14th Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, Canada from 1976 to 1978. Early life George Porteous was born in Douglas, Lanarkshire, Scotland on 7 April 1903. His family emigrated to Canada in 1910 and he attended secondary school in Saskatoon, going on to the University of Saskatchewan, where he was awarded BA in 1927. He began working for the YMCA as boys’ work secretary in Saskatoon in 1922, later becoming an Army physical education instructor. At the outbreak of World War II he went with the 1st Canadian Division to England as a YMCA Auxiliary Service officer, returning later on to Canada to train others. War service In 1941 Porteous was posted with the Winnipeg Grenadiers to Hong Kong, to reinforce the British garrison. Hugues Lapointe (March 3, 1911 – November 13, 1982) was a Canadian lawyer, Member of Parliament and Lieutenant Governor of Quebec from 1966 to 1978. Life and career Born in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, the son of the Canadian Member of Parliament Ernest Lapointe and Emma Pratte, he studied at the University of Ottawa and Université Laval. He was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1935. He practised law from 1936 to 1961. He served during World War II and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was elected as a Liberal in the 1940 federal election in the Quebec riding of Lotbinière. He was re-elected in the 1945, 1949, and 1953 elections. He was defeated in the 1957 election. Gordon Lockhart Bennett, (October 10, 1912 – February 11, 2000) was a Canadian teacher, politician and the 21st Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, he received a Bachelor of Science in 1937 and a Master of Science in Chemistry in 1947 from Acadia University. He started to teach in a school and joined the faculty of the department of Chemistry at Prince of Wales College in 1939. In March 1966, Bennett was elected president of the Dominion Curling Association, succeeding Frank Sargent. In 1966, he was elected as a Liberal candidate as a representative of 5th Queens. Pauline Mills McGibbon
Pauline Mills McGibbon (21 October 1910 – 14 December 2001) served as the 22nd Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1974 to 1980. In addition to being the first woman to occupy that position, she was also the first woman to serve as a viceregal representative in Canadian history. Once described as 'Ontario’s Eve' for all her 'first woman' achievements, the Honourable Pauline McGibbon dedicated her life to the betterment of her community, province and nation. Clarence Gosse
Clarence Lloyd Gosse (October 20, 1912 – December 21, 1996) was a Canadian physician and the 25th Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. Born in Spaniard's Bay, Newfoundland, he moved to Nova Scotia when he was ten. He graduated from the medical school of Dalhousie University in 1939. During World War II, serving in the Canadian Army Medical Corps, he was a member of one of the first surgical teams in the Battle of Normandy. After the War, in Halifax, he was a Professor of Urology at Dalhousie University and Chair of the Department of Urology at the Victoria General and Camp Hill hospitals (now the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre).
