The Senior men's race at the 1976 IAAF World Cross Country Championships was held in Chepstow, Wales, at the Chepstow Racecourse on 28 February 1976. World Athletics, formerly known as the International Amateur Athletic Federation (from 1912 to 2001) and International Association of Athletics Federations (from 2001 to 2019, both abbreviated as the IAAF) is the international governing body for the sport of athletics, covering track and field, cross country running, road running, race walking, mountain running, and ultra running. Jacques Boxberger
Jacques "Jacky" Boxberger (16 April 1949 – 9 August 2001) was a track and field athlete from France who specialized in long-distance races. He was the great hope of French middle distance running, breaking the junior world record in the 1500 metres at Stade Charléty in 1968. He represented France at the 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1984 Summer Olympics, placing sixth in the 1968 1500 metres and 42nd in the 1984 marathon. He also won the Paris Marathon in 1983 and 1985, the 1500 metres title at the 1972 European Athletics Indoor Championships, the Marrakech Marathon in 1987 and French titles in the 1500 metres, 5000 metres and 10000 metres. A knee injury during his military service with the Joinville battalion prevented him from achieving a career as brilliant as that of Michel Jazy. Hans-Jürgen Orthmann
Hans-Jürgen Orthmann (born 5 February 1954) is a German former long-distance runner who competed for West Germany. He made thirteen consecutive appearances at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships from 1975 to 1987. His highest honour was a silver medal in 1980. He was a seven-time national champion, taking three titles in cross country running, two in road running and two in track. His silver medal at the 1980 IAAF World Cross Country Championships made him only the second German to win an individual medal at the competition, after 1977 bronze medallist Detlef Uhlemann. Orthmann's finish remains the best ever by a German athlete. Orthmann was consistently among the best performing West German men at the competition in the 1970s and 1980s, scoring points for team alongside others including Michael Karst, Christoph Herle, Michael Scheytt and Ralf Salzmann. Anthony "Tony" B. Sandoval (born May 19, 1954) is a former world-class marathon runner, most noted for winning the 1980 U.S. Olympic Marathon trials, in the year the U.S. boycotted the Moscow Olympics. Sandoval's 2:10:19 performance in Buffalo, New York, on May 24, 1980, was a US Olympic Trials record and faster than the 1980 Olympic Marathon winning time of 2:11:03. Lucien Rault (born 30 March 1936 in Plouguenast) is a French long-distance runner. He represented France in the 1976 Olympics at the age of 40. He had an extensive career in cross country running with his national squad at the International Cross Country Championships and then the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Five days before his 42nd birthday, he was the #2 runner on the French World Championship team at the 1978 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, his first world championship. David Slater (born November 22, 1962) is an American singer and songwriter. Career Slater was the male vocalist champion on TV's ''Star Search'' in 1987. Venanzio Ortis (born 29 January 1955) is an Italian retired long-distance runner who won two medals at the 1978 European Championships. Biography Ortis was born in Paluzza, province of Udine. Gaston, Baron Roelants (born 5 February 1937), is a Belgian former elite steeplechaser and cross country runner.
