1976 Eastern Michigan Hurons Baseball Team
The 1976 Eastern Michigan Hurons baseball team represented Eastern Michigan University in the 1976 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Hurons played their home games at Oestrike Stadium. The team was coached by Ron Oestrike in his 13th season at Eastern Michigan. The Hurons lost the College World Series, defeated by the Arizona Wildcats in the championship game. No northern school would play for a College World Series title for 43 years, until Michigan in 2019. Oestrike Stadium
Oestrike Stadium is a stadium in Ypsilanti, Michigan at Eastern Michigan University. It is named after Ron Oestrike, a former baseball coach at EMU. It is primarily used for baseball, and serves as the Eastern Michigan University Eagles baseball team home field. In addition, it served as the home field of the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti Frontier League baseball team in 2009 and 2010 (the Sliders were renamed the Oakland County Cruisers their second season at Oestrike Stadium as a result of their planned move to Waterford Township). The 1976 Arizona State Sun Devils baseball team represented Arizona State University in the 1976 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Sun Devils played their home games at Packard Stadium, and played as part of the Western Athletic Conference. The team was coached by Jim Brock in his fifth season as head coach at Arizona State. Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions.
