1975–76 Spirits Of St. Louis Season
The 1975–76 American Basketball Association season saw the Spirits of St. Louis, led by Marvin Barnes, Moses Malone, Ron Boone and Caldwell Jones, drop to sixth place in the ABA, with a record of 35–49. As a result, the Spirits missed the playoffs in their second and final season. Rod Thorn
Rodney King Thorn (born May 23, 1941) is an American basketball executive and a former professional player and coach, Olympic Committee Chairman, with a career spanning over 50 years. In 2018, Thorn was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Early life Thorn attracted nationwide attention after a high school basketball career at Princeton High School in his hometown of Princeton, West Virginia that saw him average more than 30 points per game as a senior. He was a three-time all-state selection and was a two-time High School All-American. Thorn was also a highly regarded high school baseball player, before a head injury took him away from the sport for a time. Thorn was looking at colleges, including Duke University, when the West Virginia State Legislature passed a resolution designating Thorn as a state Natural Resource. Indiana Pacers
The Indiana Pacers are an American professional basketball team based in Indianapolis. The Pacers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference Central Division. Kentucky Colonels
The Kentucky Colonels were a member of the American Basketball Association for all of the league's nine years. The name is derived from the historic Kentucky colonels. The Colonels won the most games and had the highest winning percentage of any franchise in the league's history, but the team did not join the NBA in the 1976 ABA–NBA merger. The downtown Louisville Convention Center (now known as The Gardens) was the Colonels' original venue for the first three seasons before moving to Freedom Hall for the remaining seasons, beginning with the 1970–71 schedule. The Denver Nuggets are an American professional basketball team based in Denver. Steven Michael Green (born October 4, 1953) is a retired American professional basketball player. He was a 6'7" (2.00 m) and 220 lb (100 kg) small forward and played collegiately at Indiana University where he was first-year head coach Bob Knight's first recruit in 1971. He attended Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, Indiana. Professional career Green was selected by both the Utah Stars in the 1975 American Basketball Association Draft and by the Chicago Bulls with the 12th pick of the second round in the 1975 NBA Draft. In 1975–76 he played with the Utah Stars and Spirits of St. Louis, with combined averages of 9.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Paul Ruffner (October 15, 1948 – June 17, 2022) was a retired American basketball player who played in both the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). Ruffner was born on in Downey, California. He played basketball at Earl Warren High School in Downey, California. A 6'10" center, Ruffner played college basketball for Cerritos College and then for Brigham Young University. He was selected for the Junior College Olympic Trials basketball team in 1968. Barry Parkhill (born May 11, 1951) is a retired American professional basketball player from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1st round (15th overall) of the 1973 NBA draft but elected to play in the American Basketball Association (ABA) instead. Maurice Lucas
Maurice Lucas (February 18, 1952 – October 31, 2010) was an American professional basketball player who played in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was a four-time NBA All-Star and won an NBA championship with the Portland Trail Blazers in 1977. He was named to the ABA All-Time Team. Lucas played college basketball for the Marquette Golden Eagles. He began his pro career with two years in the ABA with the Spirits of St. Louis and Kentucky Colonels. Frederick L. Lewis (born July 1, 1943) is a retired American basketball player. He played professionally in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and American Basketball Association (ABA). He is the only player to start his career in the NBA, and play all 9 full ABA seasons (1967-1976) until the NBA/ABA merger, then sign back with the NBA.
