1975–76 Liga Alef
The 1975–76 Liga Alef season was the last in which Liga Alef was the second tier of Israeli football, as at the end of the season, Liga Artzit came into existence, and became the new second tier, Liga Alef became the third tier. Hapoel Acre (champions of the North Division) and Hapoel Yehud (champions of the South Division) promoted to Liga Leumit, both in the first time in their history. The eight clubs which placed between second to fifth in each of their respective regional divisions, with the addition of four clubs which have been relegated from Liga Leumit, formed the new Liga Artzit in the following season. All the other clubs which placed sixth to fifteenth, continued to the new Liga Alef as third tier clubs. the bottom two clubs in each regional division demoted to Liga Bet (new fourth tier). Liga Alef
Liga Alef ( he, ליגה א', , League A) is the third tier of the Israeli football league system. It is divided into two regional divisions, north and south. History League football began in Israel in 1949–50, a year after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. However, the financial and security crises gripping the young nation caused the 1950–51 season to be abandoned before it had started. When football resumed in 1951–52, the new top division went by the name of Liga Alef. The 1952–53 season was also not played, and Liga Alef resumed in 1953–54. In the 1955–56 season, Liga Leumit came into existence as the new top division, with Liga Alef becoming the second division. In the summer of 1976, restructuring saw the creation of Liga Artzit as a new second tier, and the second demotion of Liga Alef, as it became the third division. The 1976–77 Liga Alef season was the first in which Liga Alef was the third tier of Israeli football due to the formation of Liga Artzit. 1976–77 Liga Leumit
The 1976–77 Liga Leumit season saw Maccabi Tel Aviv win the title, with striker Vicky Peretz ending as the league's top scorer with 17 goals. Three clubs, Hapoel Kfar Saba, Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Petah Tikva, were relegated as the league was reduced to 14 clubs for the following season.
