1975–76 Iraqi National League
The 1975–76 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 2nd season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Newly-promoted club Al-Zawraa, founded in 1969, won the league title and also won the Iraq FA Cup to complete the first national double in Iraqi football. Al-Zawraa's squad included many of the players that played for Al-Naqil in the 1974–75 season, a club that folded due to financial difficulties after finishing as league runners-up that campaign. Iraqi Premier League
The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title. Al-Zawraa are the most successful club with 14 titles, followed by Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Talaba and Al-Shorta, who together contest the Baghdad derbies. Al-Talaba SC
Al-Talaba Sports Club ( ar, نادي الطلبة الرياضي, lit=''Students Sports Club'') is an Iraqi sports club based in Al-Rusafa, Baghdad. Its football team competes in the Iraqi Premier League, the top flight of Iraqi football. Founded in 1977, it was merged with another club called Al-Jamiea ahead of the 1978–79 season. Their home stadium is Al-Talaba Stadium. Al-Talaba are one of Iraq's most successful teams having won five league titles, with the most recent being in the 2001–02 season. They have also achieved two FA Cups, one Super Cup and a joint-record three Elite Cups. Al-Samawa SC ( ar, نادي السماوة), is an Iraqi sports club based in As-Samawa, Al-Muthanna, Iraq, which plays in the Iraq Division One, the second tier of the Iraqi football. Al-Zawraa Sports Club ( ar, نادي الزوراء الرياضي) is an Iraqi sports club based in Utayfia, Karkh District (near Tigris River), Baghdad. Their football team compete in the Iraqi Premier League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Al-Zawraa are the most decorated club in Iraq having won 14 Premier League titles, 16 Iraq FA Cups and 5 Iraqi Super Cups, all national records. Al-Zawraa also won the Iraqi Elite Cup a joint-record 3 times. Al-Zawraa have won the domestic double a record eight times and became only the second Iraqi team to win the domestic quadruple in the 1999–2000 season. Falah Hassan ( ar, فلاح حسن, born 1 July 1951) is a former Iraqi international football player, and current president of Al-Zawraa Sport Club in Baghdad. Early life Falah Hassan was born in 1951 in the village of Mimouna, in a district of Qal'at Saleh. His father was a farmer and after the 1958 Revolution, his family moved to Al-Thawra (now Al-Sadr) in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, taking advantage of the new government’s initiative in building low cost housing for families wanting to move to Baghdad, it was there he first played the game on the streets of the city. The Baghdad derbies are a series of derby matches between four Baghdad-based football clubs: Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Shorta, Al-Talaba and Al-Zawraa, collectively known as the 'Popular Teams'. They are the four most successful teams in the history of Iraqi football, and league games between the clubs are played at the neutral venue of Al-Shaab Stadium to accommodate more spectators. Iraq Division One
The Iraq Division One is the second-highest division of the Iraqi football league system after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. It is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). Each season, the two top-finishing teams in the Division One are automatically promoted to the Premier League. The four lowest-finishing teams in the Division One are relegated to Division Two. Babil Sport Club ( ar, نادي بابل الرياضي), is an Iraqi football club based in Babil, that plays in Iraq Division One. History Babil Sport Club was founded in 1960. The team has played in the Iraqi Premier League since the start of the tournament in 1974, and They had played for four seasons, and in all of them it had been struggling to stay away from relegation.
