1975 Emilia-Romagna Regional Election
The Emilia-Romagna regional election of 1975 took place on 15 June 1975. The Italian Communist Party was by far the largest party, with almost two times the votes of Christian Democracy (Italy), Christian Democracy. After the election Guido Fanti, the incumbent Communist President of the Region, formed a new government with the support of the Italian Socialist Party. Italian Communist Party
The Italian Communist Party ( it, Partito Comunista Italiano, PCI) was a communist political party in Italy. The PCI was founded as ''Communist Party of Italy'' on 21 January 1921 in Livorno by seceding from the Italian Socialist Party (PSI). Amadeo Bordiga, Antonio Gramsci, and Nicola Bombacci led the split. Outlawed during the Fascist regime, the party played a major role in the Italian resistance movement. It changed its name in 1943 to PCI and became the second largest political party of Italy after World War II, attracting the support of about a third of the vote share during the 1970s. At the time, it was the largest communist party in the West, with peak support reaching 2.3 million members, in 1947, and peak share being 34.4% of the vote (12.6 million votes) in the 1976 general election. Christian Democracy ( it, Democrazia Cristiana, DC) was a Christian democratic political party in Italy. The DC was founded on 15 December 1943 in the Italian Social Republic (Nazi-occupied Italy) as the ideal successor of the Italian People's Party, which had the same symbol, a crusader shield (''scudo crociato''). As a Catholic-inspired, centrist, catch-all party comprising both centre-right and centre-left political factions, the DC played a dominant role in the politics of Italy for fifty years, and had been part of the government from soon after its inception until its final demise on 16 January 1994 amid the ''Tangentopoli'' scandals. Guido Fanti
Guido Fanti (27 May 1925 – 11 February 2012) was an Italian politician. From 1979–1989 he served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). He was a member of the Italian Communist Party. Biography Fanti was born in 1925. He enrolled at the university but was forced to leave it during the Second World War. He was called to arms in 1943 but soon joined the Italian resistance movement, partisan resistance. In 1945, after the liberation of Bologna, he joined the Italian Communist Party. He became provincial secretary of the PCI fifteen years later. In 1960 he also entered the central committee of the party, where he was reconfirmed in the following two congresses, and in 1965, at the XI congress, a member of the national directorate. Italian Socialist Party
The Italian Socialist Party (, PSI) was a socialist and later social-democratic political party in Italy, whose history stretched for longer than a century, making it one of the longest-living parties of the country. Founded in Genoa in 1892, the PSI dominated the Italian left until after World War II, when it was eclipsed in status by the Italian Communist Party. The Socialists came to special prominence in the 1980s, when their leader Bettino Craxi, who had severed the residual ties with the Soviet Union and re-branded the party as " liberal-socialist", served as Prime Minister (1983–1987).
