1974–75 Leeds United A.F.C. Season
The 1974–75 season saw Leeds United compete in the Football League First Division. As reigning English champions, they also competed in the European Cup. Season summary Manager Don Revie left after many successful years at Leeds to manage the England side. He was replaced by Brighton & Hove Albion's Brian Clough—this appointment raised many eyebrows, as Clough had often made public his disdain for both Revie and the playing style of his Leeds side, even clamouring for the club to be relegated on disciplinary grounds. As it turned out, Clough only lasted 44 days at Elland Road. He alienated several key players like Johnny Giles, Norman Hunter and Billy Bremner and reportedly, in his first training session, told the players to "throw heirmedals in the bin because they were not won fairly." Leeds United A
Leeds () is a city and the administrative centre of the City of Leeds district in West Yorkshire, England. It is built around the River Aire and is in the eastern foothills of the Pennines. It is also the third-largest settlement (by population) in England, after London and Birmingham. The city was a small manorial borough in the 13th century and a market town in the 16th century. David Harvey (footballer)
David Harvey (born 7 February 1948) is a former international association football goalkeeper. He is best known for his 19-year playing career with Leeds United making over 400 first team appearances. With Leeds he won the 1972 FA Cup Final and the 1973–74 Football League. He was a runner-up in 3 other senior cup finals with Leeds. Harvey gained 16 caps for Scotland including 3 at the 1974 FIFA World Cup. He and his compatriots were eliminated unbeaten at the end of the group stage when Harvey kept a clean sheet against Brazil and conceded only one goals in 3 games. Glan Letheren
Glan Letheren (born 1 May 1956) is a Welsh former professional footballer. He played in the Football League as a goalkeeper for Leeds United, Scunthorpe United, Chesterfield and Swansea City. Despite being called up to the Wales squad, Letheren never achieved a full international cap. He was also a successful cricketer in the South Wales Cricket Association, playing mainly for Dafen Welfare CC, as a medium pace bowler and middle order batsman. Michel Kitabdjian
Michel Kitabdjian (7 May 1930 – 17 March 2020) was a French referee. He officiated at the 1975 European Cup Final between Leeds United and Bayern Munich, disallowing a goal by Leeds United's Peter Lorimer for offside and denying Leeds two penalty appeals as Franz Beckenbauer first handled the ball in the box and then brought down Allan Clarke in a tackle. Leeds fans became angry at the referee, and one fan managed to access the playing field after the final whistle. After gendarmes removed him, other Leeds fans began rioting in the stands as a result of the feeling of robbery. The official was rated incredibly poorly by FIFA officials observing the game but was not formally investigated. Kitabdjian also served as a FIFA referee. Peter Lorimer
Peter Patrick Lorimer (14 December 1946 – 20 March 2021) was a Scottish professional footballer, best known for his time with Leeds United and Scotland during the late 1960s and early 1970s. An attacking midfielder and the club's youngest-ever player, he was renowned for his powerful strikes from distance. From 1984 to 1985 he was club captain. Lorimer is the club record scorer with 238 goals in all competitions. He was voted Leeds' ninth greatest player ever and on to the greatest Leeds United team of all time. After retiring as a player, Lorimer became a member of the Leeds board of directors, provided match commentary on BBC Radio Leeds and Yorkshire Radio and wrote a regular column in the ''Yorkshire Evening Post''. Billy Bremner
William John Bremner (9 December 1942 – 7 December 1997) was a Scottish professional footballer and manager. Regarded as one of the game's great midfielders, he combined precision passing skills with tenacious tackling and physical stamina. He played for Leeds United from 1959 to 1976, serving as captain from 1965, in one of the most successful periods in the club's history. At Leeds, Bremner won the First Division (1968–69 and 1973–74), Second Division (1963–64), Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (1968 and 1971), FA Cup (1972), League Cup (1968) and FA Charity Shield (1969). Norman Hunter (footballer)
Norman Hunter (29 October 1943 – 17 April 2020) was an English footballer who played for Leeds United, Bristol City, Barnsley and England. He was part of the 1966 FIFA World Cup winning squad, receiving a winner's medal in 2007. He was the first winner of the PFA Players' Player of the Year award in 1974, and was included in the Football League 100 Legends. A tough tackling centre-half and defensive midfielder, he was nicknamed "Bites Yer Legs" Hunter. Johnny Giles
Michael John Giles (born 6 November 1940) is an Irish former association football player and manager best remembered for his time as a midfielder with Leeds United in the 1960s and 1970s. After retiring from management in 1985, Giles served as the senior analyst on RTÉ Sport's coverage of association football from 1986 until 2016. The FAI voted Giles as the greatest Irish player of the last 50 years at the UEFA Jubilee Awards in 2004. After winning an FA Cup winner's medal under Matt Busby at Manchester United, Giles moved to Leeds in 1963 where he played in midfield alongside captain Billy Bremner.
