1974 NAIA World Series
The 1974 NAIA World Series was the 18th annual tournament hosted by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics to determine the national champion of baseball among its member colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. After a four year absence, the tournament returned to Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph, Missouri. Lewis (IL) (45-14) defeated Sam Houston State (42-11) in the single-game championship series, 3–2, to win the Flyers' first NAIA World Series. Lewis pitcher, and future major leaguer, Tom Brennan was named tournament MVP. A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. One method of arranging a double-elimination tournament is to break the competitors into two sets of brackets, the ''winners' bracket'' and ''losers' bracket'' (''W'' and ''L'' brackets for short; also referred to as ''championship bracket'' and ''elimination bracket'', ''upper bracket'' and ''lower bracket'', or ''main bracket'' and ''repechage'') after the first round. Point Park University is a private university in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Formerly known as Point Park College, the school name was revised in 2004 to reflect the number of graduate programs being offered. 1974 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 1974 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was played at the end of the 1974 NCAA Division I baseball season to determine the national champion of college baseball. The tournament concluded with eight teams competing in the College World Series, a double-elimination tournament in its twenty-eighth year. Eight regional districts sent representatives to the College World Series with preliminary rounds within each district serving to determine each representative. These events would later become known as regionals. Each district had its own format for selecting teams, resulting in 28 teams participating in the tournament at the conclusion of their regular season, and in some cases, after a conference tournament. Lipscomb Bisons Baseball
The Lipscomb Bisons baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball team of Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. The team competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I and is a member of the ASUN Conference. The Bisons have been to two NCAA tournaments, in 2008 and 2015. The High Point Panthers baseball team represents High Point University, which is located in High Point, North Carolina. The Panthers are an NCAA Division I college baseball program that competes in the Big South Conference. They began competing in Division I in 2000 and joined the Big South Conference the same season. The High Point Panthers play all home games on campus at George S. Erath Field.
