Group 3 of the 1974 FIFA World Cup was contested between 15 and 23 June 1974. Matches were played in three cities: Dortmund, Hanover and Düsseldorf. 1974 FIFA World Cup
The 1974 FIFA World Cup was the tenth FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in West Germany (and West Berlin) between 13 June and 7 July. The tournament marked the first time that the current trophy, the FIFA World Cup Trophy, created by the Italian sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga, was awarded. The previous trophy, the Jules Rimet Trophy, had been won for the third time by Brazil in 1970 and awarded permanently to the Brazilians. This was the first out of three World Cups to feature two rounds of group stages. West Germany won the title, beating the Netherlands 2–1 in the final at the Olympiastadion in Munich. This was the second victory for West Germany, who had also won in 1954. Arend "Arie" Haan (; born 16 November 1948) is a Dutch football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. He scored 6 goals in 35 matches for the Netherlands national team of the 1970s. At club level, he enjoyed a successful career with AFC Ajax, R.S.C. Anderlecht, Standard Liège and PSV Eindhoven. He participated in seven finals of European club competitions with five victories and two defeats. He was also known for his goals from long distance. Wilhelmus "Wim" Gerardus Rijsbergen (; born 18 January 1952) is a Dutch association football, football manager and former player who played as a Defender (association football), defender. He was last the manager of Solomon Islands national football team, Solomon Islands' national team. Playing career Rijsbergen was born in Leiden, South Holland. Wim Suurbier
Wilhelmus Lourens Johannes Suurbier () (16 January 1945 – 12 July 2020) was a Dutch professional footballer and among others assistant coach of the Albania national team. He played as a right back and was part of the Netherlands national team and AFC Ajax teams of the 1970s. Club career Suurbier was born in Eindhoven. He made his debut for Ajax Amsterdam when he was 19 and played with them for 13 years, all throughout the most successful era until 1977 when he was 32 years old. Usually a right back, Suurbier was renowned for his pace and stamina. Jan Jongbloed
Jan Jongbloed (; born 25 November 1940) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He played with the Netherlands national football team. Career Jongbloed was born in Amsterdam. He played with DWS (later FC Amsterdam), Roda JC and Go Ahead Eagles. The 707 games he played in the Eredivisie was a record. Jongbloed made 24 appearances for the Netherlands, winning his first cap in 1962 and last in the 1978 FIFA World Cup final. He played with the Netherlands national team at the 1974 and 1978 FIFA World Cups. He retired in 1986 at age 45, due to a heart attack that he suffered while playing, and then worked as a football coach. Roberto Porta (; 7 June 1913 – 2 January 1984) was a Uruguayan–Italian footballer who played as a forward. During his club career he played for Nacional (Uruguay), Inter (Italy) and Independiente (Argentina). Pedro Virgilio Rocha Franchetti (; 3 December 1942 – 2 December 2013) was a Uruguayan footballer who played 52 games for the Uruguay national team between 1961 and 1974. Biography He is the only player to appear in four consecutive World Cups for the Uruguay national football team: 1962, 1966, 1970 and 1974. He also played in the Copa América in 1967. At club level he played most of his career for Peñarol and São Paulo in Brazil. Fernando Morena Belora (born 2 February 1952) is a Uruguayan former professional footballer who played as a striker. His most known nicknames were "Nando"(abridged form of Fernando) and "Potrillo" (Colt, although young stallion is a better translation in this case), and he is the all-time top goal scorer in the history of the Uruguayan Primera División with 230 goals in 244 games. Luis Alberto Cubilla Almeida (28 March 1940 – 3 March 2013) was a Uruguayan football player and coach. He had a successful playing career winning 16 major titles. Víctor Rodolfo Espárrago Videla (born 6 October 1944 in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan football coach and former midfielder. International career He was capped 67 times for the national team between 1966 and 1974.
