1974 Asia Golf Circuit
The 1974 Asia Golf Circuit was the 13th season of the Asia Golf Circuit (formerly the Far East Circuit), the main professional golf tour in Asia since it was established in 1961. Changes for 1974 The circuit gained a new sponsor in 1974, General Ibnu Sutowo. Sutowi was head of the state-controlled Indonesian oil company, Pertamina, and president of the Indonesian Golf Association. In this latter role, Indonesia also joined the circuit, with the addition of the inaugural Indonesian Open expanding the schedule to ten tournaments for the first time. Lu Liang-Huan
Lu Liang-Huan (, 10 December 1936 – 15 March 2022), also known as Mister Lu (Mr Lu) to British golf fans, was a successful Taiwanese golfer who won several important tournaments on the Asian and European circuits between 1959 and 1987. Early life and professional career Lu was born in Taipei. He became the first winner of the Hong Kong Open in 1959, the tournament devised by former Australian Open champion Eric Cremin and featuring, among others, Bob Charles and Kel Nagle. He would become a regular winner on the Far East Circuit, later known as the Asia Golf Circuit, winning his own country's national Open on four occasions and the overall circuit title in 1966 and 1967. He also played on the Japan Golf Tour, winning nine times between 1971 and 1987. Malaysian Open (golf)
The Malaysian Open is a men's professional golf tournament currently played on the Asian Tour. Notable past winners include world number one golfers Vijay Singh and Lee Westwood (both players winning the event on two occasions). Other notable winners include 17-year-old Italian Matteo Manassero in 2011 as well as former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen the following year. PGA Tour winners including Harold Henning, Jeff Maggert, Glen Day, Steve Flesch, Arjun Atwal and Noh Seung-yul have also won the event. Since its inauguration there has never been a Malaysian winner. History The tournament was inaugurated in 1962 as the Malayan Open, and was one of the events on the first season of the Far East Circuit that year. Ireneo Legaspi
Ireneo Legaspi was a Filipino professional golfer who regularly campaigned in the Asia Golf Circuit from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s. Known to close friends and family as "Boyong", Legaspi played the tour with many other notable Filipino golfers of that period such as Ben Arda. The highlight of his career was winning the Malaysian Open in 1967. He also won several tournaments in the Philippine golf circuit as well which regularly placed him at the top ten Filipino golfers list at his peak in the 1970s. Health problems took him out of the active professional circuit. He spent his later years teaching the game to numerous students, including free, private lessons to several children in his hometown of Pasig. He continued as a teaching professional until his death in 2006. Sobu International Open
The Kirin Open was a golf tournament in Japan. It was founded in 1972 as the season ending event on the Asia Golf Circuit, replacing the Yomiuri International which had been cancelled when sponsors decided to discontinue the event. It was also a fixture on the Japan Golf Tour from 1974 until 2001. Korea Open (golf)
The Kolon Korea Open, as it is currently known for sponsorship reasons, is a men's professional golf tournament that has been held annually in South Korea since 1958. The Korea Open was an event on the Asia Golf Circuit from 1970 until 1981. The Maekyung Open was founded in 1982 to replace it on the circuit, which allowed rescheduling of the Korea Open to later in the year. It became a stop on the Asian Tour from 1998 to 2008, except for 2005, and then part of the OneAsia Tour schedule from 2009 to 2017, before returning to the Asian Tour in 2018. In 2019, the total purse is KRW1,200,000,000 with KRW300,000,000 to the winner. The event has been played at Woo Jeong Hills since 2003. The Taiwan Open was the national open golf tournament of Taiwan. It was also known as the Republic of China Open, ROC Open, Chinese Taipei Open, or simply the China Open. It was founded in 1965, and became an event on the Asia Golf Circuit the following year. The Asian PGA Tour was founded in 1995, and the Asian Circuit declined. The Indian Open, titled for sponsorship reasons as the Hero Indian Open since 2011, is the national open golf championship of India, organised by the Indian Golf Union. Founded in 1964, it was added to the Asia Golf Circuit schedule in 1970. In 1998 it became an event on the rival Omega Tour (known as the Asian Tour since 2004). Since 2015, it has also been co-sanctioned by the European Tour. From 1964 until 2000, the tournament was held exclusively at either Delhi Golf Club or Royal Calcutta Golf Club. Ben Arda
Ben Arda (13 June 1929 – 20 December 2006) was a Filipino professional golfer. Arda, known as ''Bantam Ben'' and ''the Toy Tiger'' because of his small stature, was one of Asia's leading golfers during the 1960s and 1970s. He was the first Filipino to qualify for the Masters Tournament and The Open Championship. He won nine tournaments on the Asia Golf Circuit, including the Philippine Open three times, and headed the points list in 1970. He also won four times on the Japan Golf Tour and played in the World Cup 16 times, recording a best finish of 2nd place in 1977 with playing partner Rudy Lavares.
