Bob Dailey
Robert Scott Dailey (May 3, 1953 – September 7, 2016) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played nine seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Vancouver Canucks and Philadelphia Flyers between 1973 and 1982. Playing career The league's tallest player until the arrival of Willie Huber in 1978, Dailey was a tremendous combination of size and skill on the blueline. He was selected ninth overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft from the Toronto Marlboros, where he had won the Memorial Cup as a junior. He immediately stepped into the Canucks roster as one of their top defenders, registering 7 goals and 24 points as a rookie in 1973–74. In 1974–75, Dailey registered 12 goals and 48 points to lead Canuck defenders and was named the club's top blueliner. Cam Connor
Cameron Duncan Connor (born August 10, 1954) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward and a Stanley Cup winner. Connor was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in October 2015. Early life Connor grew up best friends with WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper, and they stayed friends until Piper's death. Hockey career In Connor's last year of junior hockey, he was named captain of the Flin Flon Bombers in the WCHL and scored 47 goals, 44 assists in 65 games, along with 376 penalty minutes. Connor won the Rookie of the Year Award. He claims a lot of this success is due to his coach Pat Ginnell having the confidence in him to make him captain. Because of Connor's junior success, he was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round, fifth overall, of the 1974 NHL amateur draft. Bob Gassoff
Robert Allen Gassoff (April 17, 1953 – May 29, 1977) was a professional ice hockey player, born in Quesnel, British Columbia. From an early age he was passionate about hockey, playing first on a rink on the family farm on the Quesnel Hydraulic Road and then on a variety of local junior leagues. He played four seasons in the NHL for the St. Louis Blues. He was killed in a motorcycle accident on the country property of his friend and teammate Garry Unger near Gray Summit, Missouri; his number three was subsequently retired by the Blues. Robin Sadler
Robin Sadler (born March 31, 1955) is a Canadians, Canadian and Austrians, Austrian former professional ice hockey defenceman (ice hockey), defenceman. He was drafted in the first round, ninth overall, of the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft by the Montreal Canadiens; in addition, he was drafted in the second round, 18th overall, of the 1975 WHA Amateur Draft by the Michigan Stags. However, Sadler never played in either the National Hockey League or the World Hockey Association despite signing with both leagues (the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers respectively). Unhappy with the demands of professional hockey in North America, Sadler established a successful career in Europe instead, eventually representing Austria internationally. 1975 NHL Amateur Draft
The 1975 NHL Amateur Draft was the 13th NHL Entry Draft. It was held at the NHL office in Montreal, Quebec. The two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Philadelphia Flyers made the most noise at the draft, trading Bill Clement, Don McLean, and the 18th overall pick to the Washington Capitals for the number one overall selection, which they used to select Mel Bridgman. Later in round nine the Flyers became the first NHL team to select a Soviet-born and trained player in the amateur draft, selecting Latvian Viktor Khatulev 160th overall. Alan Hangsleben
Alan William Hangsleben (born February 22, 1953) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman from Warroad, Minnesota. He played for the New England Whalers of the World Hockey Association between 1974 and 1979, and then in the National Hockey League with the Hartford Whalers, Washington Capitals, and Los Angeles Kings between 1979 and 1982. Internationally Hangsleben played for the American national team at three World Championships and the 1976 Canada Cup. Playing career Selected in 1973 by both the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League and the New England Whalers of the World Hockey Association while still playing for the University of North Dakota men's ice hockey team, Hangsleben chose to sign a pro contract with the Whalers. Bob Gainey
Robert Michael Gainey (born December 13, 1953) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played for the Montreal Canadiens from 1973 until 1989. After retiring from active play, he became a hockey coach and later an executive with the Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars organization before returning to Montreal as general manager from 2003 to 2010. Currently, Gainey serves as a team consultant for the St. Louis Blues as well as a volunteer senior advisor for the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992. In 2017 Gainey was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history. 1978 NHL Amateur Draft
The 1978 NHL Amateur Draft was the 16th NHL Entry Draft. It was hosted at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Quebec, on June 15, 1978. It was the last draft to be called the "Amateur Draft" before the process was renamed to the NHL Entry Draft in 1979. The last active player in the NHL from this draft class was Viacheslav Fetisov, who retired after the 1997–98 season.
