1973 Oceania Cup
The 1973 OFC Nations Cup was the first Oceania Football Confederation, Oceania-wide football tournament ever held. It took place in New Zealand from 17 February 1973–24 February 1973. All matches were held at Newmarket Park, in Auckland, and five teams participated: New Zealand national football team, New Zealand, New Caledonia national football team, New Caledonia, Tahiti national football team, Tahiti, Vanuatu national football team, New Hebrides (now known as Vanuatu) and Fiji national football team, Fiji. At the time, the Oceania Football Confederation was not considered a full FIFA Confederation, and as such allowed national teams unaffiliated with FIFA to enter. The teams played each other according to a Round-robin tournament, round-robin format, and the top two teams (New Zealand national football team, New Zealand and Tahiti national football team, Tahiti) played off in a final to determine the winner. Alan Vest
Alan Vest (born 5 September 1939) is an English-born New Zealand former football player and manager from Barnsley, England. He currently resides in Perth, Australia. Biography Vest had a notable playing career, scoring on his full international debut for the All Whites in a 4–1 win over New Caledonia on 17 September 1972 and ended his international playing career with 17 A-international caps and 6 goals to his credit, his final cap being in a 0–0 draw with Iran on 12 August 1973. Vest first coached Rugby Town in the 1960s and then Rochdale United. It is in Australia where Vest has made his mark with the Yorkshire-man coaching NSL teams when they were at their peak in the 1970s. After stints in New Zealand and in Perth as a director of coaching at the Football Federation of Western Australia. Geoff Brand
Geoff Brand (born 14 May 1946) is a former association football player who represented New Zealand at international level. Originally from Cambridgeshire he joined the Metropolitan Police Cadets in London on 3 May 1963. In 1966, aged 19 years, he played for the Metropolitan Police in the Metropolitan League which at that time included Arsenal, West Ham and Spurs Youth Teams. After turning down trials at West ham and Arsenal he left London, following his Kiwi fiancée Robyn, and joined the police in New Zealand until retirement in June 2001 at the rank of Inspector having served at Wellington, Lower Hutt, National H/Q's, Taumarunui, Tauranga, Auckland Central and South Auckland. Brian Turner (footballer, Born 1949)
Brian Alfred Turner (born 31 July 1949 in England), was a New Zealand football player, who was a prominent squad member during the country's first successful campaign to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, in 1982. He was assistant coach for the New Zealand national team that played in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Clubs coached Turner has served on the coaching staffs of Wellington Phoenix FC, Auckland Manukau United, Onehunga Sports, and Fencibles AFC 2013. Club career Turner was born in England and moved to New Zealand at an early age. He began his senior playing career in New Zealand with Ponsonby and Eden before returning to England in 1968 where he joined Chelsea FC for a season, but failed to make a 1st team appearance.
