1973 Chatham Cup
The 1973 Chatham Cup was the 46th annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. The organisation of the cup was changed from previous years, with early stages being run in three large zones (northern, central, and southern), rather than by individual associations as had previously been the case. National League teams received a bye until the later stages of the competition. In all, 103 teams took part in the competition. Note: Different sources give different numberings for the rounds of the competition: some start round one with the beginning of the regional qualifications; others start numbering from the first national knock-out stage. Newmarket Park
Newmarket Park is an approximately 6 ha large park in Auckland, New Zealand. It is located in the triangle between three suburbs, northeast of the Newmarket, southeast of Parnell and northwest of Remuera. It is located partially on a higher, man-made plateau, with the remainder of the park dropping steeply down towards Newmarket Stream running to Hobson Bay along the eastern edge of the park. In the early 2010s, a major remediation and upgrade of the park occurred. History In the early European history of the area, the gully containing the park and the Slaughter House Creek (now Newmarket Stream) was used as a rubbish dump. Western A.F.C. is a semi-professional association football club in Christchurch, New Zealand. They compete in the Robbie's Premier Football League. History 1913–1920 Western A.F.C kicked off in 1913 when a small group of keen soccer players at West Christchurch District High School decided to start a team. The few boys who had played soccer at primary school trained the rest of the team, many of whom had never even seen soccer played before. They challenged St. Bedes for their first game, and in so doing, defied and angered the headmaster, who threatened to expel one of their organisers, Jim Barr. Red Sox Manawatu is an Association football and netball club in Palmerston North, New Zealand. The club caters for men's, women's and youth football teams and women's netball teams. Riverside RedSox is affiliated to Red Sox Manawatu and caters for junior boys and girls football. History The Red Sox Manawatu history is a complicated one. Dunedin City is a former New Zealand football club based in the South Island city of Dunedin. Dunedin City was founded in 1909 as Dunedin High School Old Boys, and changed their name to Dunedin City in 1970. Melville United AFC is an amateur football club in Melville, Hamilton, New Zealand. It competes in the Northern League. History The club was formed in 1996 from the merger of Melville AFC (founded 1972) and Waikato United (founded 1988). Fencibles United AFC is an amateur association football club, they currently compete in the Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division 2. The club is based in Howick/Pakuranga, Auckland. The clubs roots go back to Pakuranga Town AFC and Howick AFC. History In 1995, two East Auckland clubs, Pakuranga Town AFC and Howick AFC, amalgamated to form Fencibles United AFC. The adoption of 'Fencibles United AFC' as the name for the club, has recognised the Fencibles as the historic link between the two clubs and identifies with the locality. Ellerslie AFC is an association football club based in Ellerslie, New Zealand. The senior team currently competes in the NRFL Championship. Club history Ellerslie AFC’s history goes back to the original founding of the Auckland Football Association in 1887, whereby it was one of the seven clubs to participate in the Association’s inaugural competition. The Club continued into the second season of organised soccer in Auckland, but, like the playing of the game at that time, did not continue past that point. Auckland football had slipped into a period of recess, due to the lack of suitable grounds, and Ellerslie became an early victim of the break in competition. Manurewa AFC is an amateur football (soccer) club in Manurewa, Auckland, New Zealand. They will compete in Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division 1 with newly appointed head coach Marty Rodwell History Manurewa AFC was formed by the merger of Tramways (1929 Chatham Cup winner) and another club named Manurewa. The merged entity initially used the portmanteau name of Tramurewa, during which time the club won the 1931 Chatham Cup. Tramuwera reverted to the name of Manurewa in 1959, the name currently used by the club. Manurewa competed in the New Zealand National Soccer League from 1979 to 1992, finishing as champions in 1983.
