1973 CONCACAF Championship
The 1973 CONCACAF Championship, the sixth edition of the CONCACAF Championship, was held in Haiti from 29 November to 18 December. All matches were played at Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince. This is the first edition to double as qualification for the World Cup. Haiti became winners for the first time in the CONCACAF region and qualified for West Germany '74. The North, Central American and Caribbean zone was allocated 1 place (out of 16) in the World Cup. Steve David
Steve David (born 11 March 1951 in Point Fortin, Trinidad) is a Trinidadian former North American Soccer League and international football player. Club career David began his professional career with Police in Trinidad and Tobago. In 1974, he signed with the Miami Toros in the North American Soccer League. That season, the Toros had reached the finals, losing the championship games to Los Angeles 4–3. David had a standout second season and was named the 1975 NASL MVP as the Toros reached the league cup play-off semi-final stage. After a poor 1976 season, scoring only one goal in thirteen games, the Toros traded him to the Los Angeles Aztecs. He had a rebound in form, scoring twenty-six goals in twenty-four games. However, he began expressing dissatisfaction with the Aztecs at the beginning of the 1977 season. Roger Saint-Vil
Roger Saint-Vil ''(also spelled St. Vil)'' (8 December 1949 – 7 June 2020) was a Haitian footballer who played professionally in the United States and Haiti. A left winger, he was a member of the Haitian national team at the 1974 FIFA World Cup. Saint-Vil attended Tertullien Guilbaud primary school. In 1963 when he was sixteen, he signed for Zénith in the Haitian Third Division. In 1964, he moved to Racing Club Haïtien. He began with team's third division team, but after three games, he was called up to the first team. At some point, he moved to Violette Athletic Club. In 1974, he played for Archibald FC in Trinidad and Tobago. In 1975, he played an unknown number of games, scoring eight goals, with the Cincinnati Comets of the American Soccer League. In 1974, Saint-Vil was an integral part of the Haiti national team's successful qualification campaign for the 1974 FIFA World Cup. His older brother, Guy Saint-Vil, was also a professional player.
