The 1972–73 Alpha Ethniki was the 37th season of the highest football league of Greece. The season began on 17 September 1972 and ended on 3 June 1973. Alpha Ethniki
The Super League Greece 1 ( el, Ελληνική Σούπερ Λιγκ 1), or Super League 1, is the highest professional association football league in Greece. The league was formed on 16 July 2006 and replaced ''Alpha Ethniki'' at the top of the Greek football league system. It consists of 14 teams and runs from August to May, with teams playing 26 games. As of May 2022, Super League Greece is ranked 15th in the UEFA ranking of leagues, based on performances in European competitions over the last five years. Since the foundation of the first official Panhellenic Championship in 1927, only six clubs have won the title. The current champions are Olympiacos, based in Piraeus. Stavros Sarafis
Stavros Sarafis ( el, Σταύρος Σαράφης; 17 January 1950 – 13 October 2022) was a Greek football player who spent his entire career in PAOK, playing as an attacking midfielder or forward. He was one of the club's most famous players and also the all-time top scorer. His nickname was ''"Ceasar"'' ''( el, "Kaisaras")''. Career Sarafis was born in Epanomi, on the outskirts of Thessaloniki in 1950. He was discovered by president Giorgos Pantelakis, joined PAOK in 1967, and remained with the club for 14 years, retiring in 1981. He was a prolific goalscorer, netting 136 goals in 358 league matches with PAOK. He also scored 26 goals in the Greek Cup and 8 in UEFA competitions, for 170 goals in total. His partnership with Giorgos Koudas was one of the most prolific attacking duos in Greek football during the 1970s, winning one league championship and two cups. 1972–73 Greek Football Cup
The 1972–73 Greek Football Cup was the 31st edition of the Greek Football Cup. The competition culminated with the Greek Cup Final, held at Karaiskakis Stadium, on 17 June 1973. The match was contested by Olympiacos and PAOK, with Olympiacos winning by 1–0. Calendar Qualifying round 28 clubs from Beta Ethniki entered the qualification round. Knockout phase In the knockout phase, teams play against each other over a single match. If the match ends up as a draw, extra time will be played.
