1972 VFL Grand Final
The 1972 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Richmond Football Club and Carlton Football Club at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 7 October 1972. Robert Walls
Robert Walls (born 21 July 1950) is a former Australian rules footballer who represented and in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s and 1970s. In a playing career that spanned three decades Robert played a combined 259 games and kicked a total of 444 goals. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s he continued to coach in the VFL/AFL for a total of 347 games across four different clubs. As a coach, his greatest achievement came in 1987 when he coached Carlton to the 1987 VFL premiership, the same club he won premierships with as player in 1968, 1970 and 1972. After his coaching career ended, Walls became involved in the AFL media as a commentator and columnist. Neil Chandler
Neil Chandler (6 May 1949 – 24 June 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton and St Kilda in the VFL. Chandler played with Carlton during a successful era for the club and was a member of three premiership teams. He was a reserve in their 1968 and 1970 flags but earned a starting spot in 1972, playing on a half forward flank. David Dickson (footballer)
David Dickson (born 12 May 1952) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the VFL during the 1970s. Dickson, who went to school in Coburg, played his early football in the VFA with Preston. Ian Robertson (Australian Rules Footballer)
Ian Anthony Robertson (born 25 January 1946 in Footscray, Victoria) is a former Australian rules footballer in the VFL and currently a football commentator. Robertson was born in Footscray and recruited to the Carlton Football Club from Dalyston after the Footscray Football Club refused a request for a trial with the club. Robertson debuted in 1967 with the Blues and was a solid midfielder. The fact that he was taken from Footscray's recruitment zone became an issue two years into Robertson's career, when the Bulldogs asked for their rights to him as a player. Ken Greenwood was cleared to the Bulldogs from Carlton and the dispute was resolved. In 1968, 1970 and 1972, Robertson was a member of Carlton's premiership sides and was a serviceable player. Bruce Doull
Alexander Bruce Doull (born 11 September 1950) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Wearing guernsey number 11, he was nicknamed the "Flying Doormat" due to the matted appearance of the constantly disarranged long portions of his extreme "combover" hairstyle. Vin Waite
Vincent Waite (26 February 1949 – 5 July 2003) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the VFL. His son Jarrad followed in his footsteps and started his football career with Carlton, being drafted under the father-son rule. Recruited as a seventeen year old, from the Latrobe Valley town of Morwell , Waite kicked two goals with his first two kicks in league football. David McKay (footballer)
David McKay (born 5 November 1949) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Blues during the 1970s. In 1970, in just his second season of VFL football McKay won a premiership with Carlton and was voted as best on ground in the grand final.
