Frank Stubblefield
Frank Albert Stubblefield (April 5, 1907 – October 14, 1977), a Democrat, represented Kentucky in the United States House of Representatives. Stubblefield was born and schooled in Kentucky and attended the University of Arizona for one year in 1927. He received a degree from the University of Kentucky in 1932 and went into business in Murray, Kentucky where he was elected to the city council. Stubblefield served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War II. Stubblefield was elected to the Kentucky Railroad Commission in 1951 and re-elected in 1955. In 1958 he sought election to the United States House of Representatives from United States House of Representatives, Kentucky District 1, Kentucky's 1st district in the far western part of the state. Stubblefield defeated the incumbent Congressman Noble Jones Gregory in the Democratic primary and won the seat in the general election. The 1972 United States House of Representatives elections coincided with the landslide reelection victory of President Richard M. Nixon. Nixon's Republican Party managed to gain a net of twelve House of Representatives seats from the Democratic Party, although the Democrats retained a majority. This was the first election in which citizens at least 18 years of age (instead of 21 and older) could vote, due to the recent passage of the 26th Amendment. This was the last time until 2022 that a Democrat would win a House seat in Alaska. The 1948 United States House of Representatives elections were elections for the United States House of Representatives in 1948 which coincided with President Harry S. Truman's election to a full term. Truman had campaigned against a "do-nothing"' Republican Party Congress that had opposed his initiatives and was seen as counterproductive. The Democratic Party regained control of both the House and Senate in this election. For Democrats, this was their largest gain since 1932. These were the last elections until 1980 when a member of a political party other than the Democrats, Republicans, or an independent had one or more seats in the chamber. Tim Lee Carter (September 2, 1910 – March 27, 1987) was an American politician serving as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives for the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1965 until 1981. Background Congressman Carter was born in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. He attended Western Kentucky State College (now Western Kentucky University) in Bowling Green, having pursued a pre-med curricula. Carter went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Tennessee in 1937. He served in the United States Army Medical Corps in World War II, traveling with the Thirty-Eighth Infantry for over three and a half years. He became a captain. Later Carter returned to practice medicine in Tompkinsville. Election In 1964, Carter sought the Republican nomination for Congress, following the retirement of Representative Eugene Siler.
