1972 Ole Miss Rebels Football Team
The 1972 Ole Miss Rebels football team represented the University of Mississippi during the 1972 NCAA University Division football season. The Rebels were led by second-year head coach Billy Kinard and played their home games at Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi and Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson. They competed as members of the Southeastern Conference, finishing tied for seventh with a record of 5–5 (2–5 SEC). Ole Miss fielded its first integrated varsity football team in 1972, as did SEC rival LSU and Brigham Young. Magnolia Bowl
The Magnolia Bowl is name given to the LSU–Ole Miss football rivalry. It is an American college football rivalry game played annually by the LSU Tigers football team of Louisiana State University (LSU) and the Ole Miss Rebels football team of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). The teams compete for the Magnolia Bowl Trophy. The Tigers and the Rebels first met in 1894, and have been regular opponents in Southeastern Conference (SEC), meeting annually, without interruption, since 1945. The rivalry was at its height during the 1950s and 1960s, when both teams were highly ranked and during which time both teams claimed a national championship. 1972 LSU Tigers Football Team
The 1972 LSU Tigers football team represented Louisiana State University during the 1972 NCAA University Division football season. LSU and Southeastern Conference rival Ole Miss became the last major universities to desegregate their varsity football squads this season. The Sept. 30 game vs. Wisconsin marked the first appearance of a Big Ten Conference team at Tiger Stadium. Only two other Big Ten teams have played at Baton Rouge since: Indiana in 1978 and Ohio State in 1987 (Maryland and Nebraska each played in Baton Rouge before joining the Big Ten, as did future Big Ten member USC). The Ole Miss–Vanderbilt football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Ole Miss Rebels football team of the University of Mississippi and Vanderbilt Commodores football team of Vanderbilt University. Auburn–Ole Miss Football Rivalry
The Auburn–Ole Miss football rivalry is a college football rivalry game between the Tigers of Auburn University and the Rebels of the University of Mississippi. History Both founding members of the Southeastern Conference, Auburn and Ole Miss first met on October 20, 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama with Ole Miss winning the game by a score of 19–0. After a 14–7 Auburn victory in 1932, the teams didn't meet again until 1949, when the Rebels defeated the Tigers by a score of 40–7. They have met in two bowl games, with Ole Miss winning the 1965 Liberty Bowl by a margin of 13–7 and Auburn winning the 1971 Gator Bowl by a score of 35–28.
