1972 Intercontinental Cup
The 1972 Intercontinental Cup was an association football tie held over two legs in September 1972 between the winners of the 1971–72 European Cup, Ajax, and the winners of the 1972 Copa Libertadores, Independiente. The first leg was held on 6 September 1972 at Independiente Stadium (''La Doble Visera''), home of Independiente, and ended in a 1–1 draw, with goals from Johan Cruyff and Francisco Sá. The return leg was held on 28 September 1972 at the Olympic Stadium, which was won by Ajax 3–0. Therefore the Dutch side won their first Intercontinental Cup trophy.1972 Intercontinental Cup

The European/South American Cup, more commonly known as the Intercontinental Cup and from 1980 to 2004 as the Toyota European/South American Cup (abbreviated as Toyota Cup) for sponsorship reasons, was an international association football, football competition endorsed by UEFA (Europe) and CONMEBOL (South America), contested between representative clubs from these confederations (representatives of most developed continents in the football world), usually the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the South American Copa Libertadores. It ran from 1960 to 2004, when it was succeeded by the FIFA Club World Cup, FIFA Club World Championship, although they both ran concurrently in 2000. 1964 Intercontinental Cup
The 1964 Intercontinental Cup was an association football tie in September 1964 between Independiente and Inter Milan. The first leg was held on 9 September 1964 in Avellaneda, and won 1–0 by Independiente. Two weeks later, Inter won the return leg, 2-0. A playoff was therefore held, at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Madrid, with Inter winning in extra time with a goal from Mario Corso. Santiago Bernabéu de Yeste (; 8 June 1895 – 2 June 1978) was a Spanish footballer who played for Real Madrid as a forward. He is widely regarded one of the most important figures in the history of Real Madrid, having served as its president for 35 years, from 11 September 1943 until his death in 1978. Carlos Roque Monzón (7 August 1942 – 8 January 1995), nicknamed Escopeta (''Shotgun'' in Spanish), was an Argentine professional boxer who held the undisputed world middleweight championship for 7 years. Ricardo Elvio Pavoni Cúneo (born August 8, 1943 in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan former football defender who played the majority of his career for Club Atlético Independiente in the Argentine First Division. Career Club Pavoni began his football career with the Montevidean club Defensor. Jesaia Swart (born 3 July 1938), commonly known as Sjaak Swart, is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a winger for Ajax. During his career at Ajax, he amassed a total of almost 600 matches, a record for the club. Miguel Angel Lopez (born 1 March 1942 in Argentina), nicknamed ''Zurdo'', is an Argentinean retired footballer. As a player, López had his most successful tenure on Independiente, where he won eight titles. Player career López started playing in Unión Central of Villa María, Córdoba, then moving to Club Universitario. In 1963 he was traded to Sarmiento de Junín, then to Estudiantes de La Plata to make his debut in 1964. Three years later he signed for Ferro Carril Oeste in exchange for Felipe Ribaudo.
