The 1972 NFL Season, 1972 Denver Broncos season was the team's 13th season in professional football and third in the National Football League (NFL). Under first-year head coach and general manager John Ralston (American football), John Ralston, the Broncos finished with five wins and nine losses, third in the AFC West Division. Hired in early January, Ralston was previously the head coach for nine years at 1971 Stanford Indians football team, Stanford University; in his final two seasons, he led the Indians to consecutive Pac-12 Conference, Pac-8 titles and upset victories in the 1972 Rose Bowl, Rose Bowl. The American Football Conference – Western Division or AFC West is one of the four divisions of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The division comprises the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, and Los Angeles Chargers. Jim Krieg
Jim Krieg (born May 29, 1949) is a former American football wide receiver who played one season in the National Football League for the Denver Broncos. He played college football at the University of Washington and was drafted in the fifth round of the 1972 NFL Draft. College Krieg was a two-year letterman at wide receiver while at Washington from 1970 to 1971. In 1970, his 54 receptions for 738 yards were the most in program history to date. 1971 Colorado Buffaloes Football Team
The 1971 Colorado Buffaloes football team represented the University of Colorado at Boulder in the Big Eight Conference during the 1971 NCAA University Division football season. Led by ninth-year head coach Eddie Crowder, the Buffaloes were 9–2 in the regular season (5–2 in Big 8, third), and played their home games on campus at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado. Invited to the Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl against host Houston, seventh-ranked Colorado defeated the #15 Cougars 29–17 to finish at 10–2, outscoring their opponents 320–220. The Buffs climbed to third in the final AP poll, behind Nebraska and Oklahoma, also of the Big Eight (and their only two losses, both on the road). Colorado's next bowl win came nineteen years later. Larry Brunson
Larry Rudolph Brunson (born August 11, 1949) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League. He played for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Oakland Raiders and the Denver Broncos between 1974 and 1980. He is the father of former minor league baseball player Matt Brunson. He attended Cortez High School in Cortez, Colorado and then Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado and the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was 5'11" and he weighed 180 pounds. He was drafted in the 11th round of the 1972 draft by the Denver Broncos. He finished his NFL career with 104 receptions and 1787 yards, for an average of 17.2 yards a catch. The Maryland Terrapins football team represents the University of Maryland, College Park in the sport of American football. Defensive end (DE) is a defensive position in the sport of gridiron football. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach.
