1972 Copa Interamericana
The 1972 Copa Interamericana was the 3rd. edition of the Copa Interamericana. The final was contested by Argentine Club Atlético Independiente (champion of 1972 Copa Libertadores) and Hondurean side Olimpia (winner of 1972 CONCACAF Champions' Cup). The final was played under a two-leg format in June, 1973. Both matches were held in Honduras. In the first leg, hosted at Estadio General Francisco Morazán in San Pedro Sula, Independiente beat Olimpia 2–1. Copa Interamericana
The Copa Interamericana ( en, Interamerican Cup) was an annual club football competition contested between a representative from North America (CONCACAF) and South America (CONMEBOL). Established in 1969, it was discontinued in 1998 after CONCACAF clubs, particularly those from Mexico, began participating in CONMEBOL competitions. The competition was intended to be contested between the winners of the North American CONCACAF Champions Cup and the South American Copa Libertadores tournaments, although the participants varied at times. The competition was usually contested over a two legged tie, with a playoff or penalty kicks if necessary. However, it was common for several consecutive editions to go unheld. Miguel Ángel Raimondo
Miguel Ángel Raimondo (born 12 December 1943) is an Argentine football midfielder. He won ten trophies in his career, eight with Club Atlético Independiente and a further two with River Plate, he was awarded the Olimpia de Plata as the 1974 Argentine sports journalist's footballer of the year. Raimondo played his first professional game for Rosario Central in the Primera Division Argentina in 1965. One year later he was transferred to Atlanta where he played until the end of the 1968 season. In 1969, he joined Club Atlético Independiente, it was with Independiente that he had most of his success as a player, while he was there the club won two league championships, three (of their four in a row) Copa Libertadores titles, two Copa Interamericanas and an Intercontinental Cup (football), Intercontinental Cup. Luis Garisto Pan (3 December 1945 – 21 November 2017) was a Uruguayan football (soccer) coach who had a professional career as both player and head coach. Career Luis Garisto, ''el Loco'', began his professional career in 1960 with Uruguayan club Defensor, known today as Defensor Sporting, and he was then transferred to Club Independiente of Argentina in Buenos Aires. Humberto Dionisio Maschio (; born 20 February 1933) is an Italian-Argentine former football player and manager who played as a forward or midfielder. Agustín Alberto Balbuena (1 September 1945 – 9 March 2021) was an Argentine football striker who won with Club Atlético Independiente four Copa Libertadores and one Copa Intercontinental. Rubén Galván (footballer)
Rubén Galván (7 April 1952 – 14 March 2018) was an Argentine football who played as a midfielder for Club Atlético Independiente for most of his career. At international level, he was part of the Argentina squad that won the 1978 FIFA World Cup on home soil. Club career Galván is one of the most decorated players in the history of Argentine football with four Copa Libertadores, two Nacional Championships and a World Cup title to his name. Francisco Pedro Manuel Sá (born 25 October 1945, in Las Lomitas, Formosa) is a retired Argentine football defender. Sá holds the record for the most Copa Libertadores titles, he won six; 4 consecutive titles with Club Atlético Independiente between 1972 and 1975, and a further 2 with Boca Juniors in 1977 and 1978. Ricardo Elvio Pavoni Cúneo (born August 8, 1943 in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan former football defender who played the majority of his career for Club Atlético Independiente in the Argentine First Division.
