Iraq Central FA League
The Iraq Central FA League, previously named the Iraq FA Baghdad League ( ar, دوري الاتحاد العراقي لمنطقة بغداد) and also known as the League of the Institutes ( ar, دوري المؤسسات, ''Dawri Al-Muassasat'') due to containing a number of teams representing different Iraqi institutes, was the top-level division of football in Baghdad and its neighbouring cities between 1948 and 1973. It was controlled by the Iraq Central Football Association and was played under a variety of different formats including a double-elimination format, a round-robin format and a double round-robin format. It was one of four regional league championships played in Iraq at the time, with the others being in Basra, Kirkuk and Mosul. Aliyat Al-Shorta SC
Aliyat Al-Shorta Sport Club ( ar, نادي آليات الشرطة الرياضي, lit=''Police Machinery Sport Club'') is an Iraqi sports club based in Baghdad. Its football team plays in the Iraq Division Two. History The Aliyat Al-Shorta team was founded in 1961 by the Police Games Committee. They were promoted to the Iraq Central FA League top-flight in 1963 after winning the third and second divisions in succession, clinching promotion with a 3–1 win over Al-Omma after extra time on 29 June 1963. Aliyat Al-Shorta went on to become one of the strongest teams in the region under the management of Mohammed Najeeb Kaban, winning three top-flight league titles in a row ( 1967–68, 1968–69 and 1969–70) and leading the league in the 1966–67 season before it was cancelled. Ali Kadhim Nassir Al-Tameemi ( ar, علي كاظم ناصر التميمي), 1 January 1949 – 2 January 2018) was an Iraqi football striker who played for Iraq in the 1972 AFC Asian Cup & 1976 AFC Asian Cup. He also played for Al Zawraa. He held Iraq's goal record with 35 goals in his time, until Hussein Saeed broke it in 1982. Al-Talaba Sports Club ( ar, نادي الطلبة الرياضي, lit=''Students Sports Club'') is an Iraqi sports club based in Al-Rusafa, Baghdad. Its football team competes in the Iraqi Premier League, the top flight of Iraqi football. Founded in 1977, it was merged with another club called Al-Jamiea ahead of the 1978–79 season. Their home stadium is Al-Talaba Stadium. Al-Talaba are one of Iraq's most successful teams having won five league titles, with the most recent being in the 2001–02 season. 1970–71 Iraq Central FA Premier League
The 1970–71 Iraq Central FA Premier League was the 23rd season of the Iraq Central FA League (the top division of football in Baghdad and its neighbouring cities from 1948 to 1973). Eight teams competed in the tournament, which was played in a double round-robin format. After returning from the 1971 Asian Champion Club Tournament, Aliyat Al-Shorta had two games in hand against Al-Mushat and Al-Sikak Al-Hadeed and if they won both games they would win the league. Al-Sikak Al-Hadeed managed to go 2–0 up in the first half through two goals from Ali Kadhim. Aliyat Al-Shorta then scored twice in the last ten minutes through Douglas Aziz and Tariq Aziz but the game ended 2–2, giving Maslahat Naqil Al-Rukab their fourth league title. Aliyat Al-Shorta's 5–0 win over Al-Quwa Al-Siyara during the second half of the season was annulled by the Iraq Central Football Association due to suspicions of match fixing. 1972–73 Iraq Central FA First Division
The 1972–73 Iraq Central FA First Division was the 25th and last season of the Iraq Central FA League (the top division of football in Baghdad and its neighbouring cities from 1948 to 1973); it began on 16 October 1972. The first half of the season concluded on 31 December 1972 at which point the season was ended; this was due to scheduling difficulties with the Iraq national and military teams' matches that caused the cancellation of the second half of the season. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, who led the table at the halfway point having won all of their seven games, were thus crowned champions for their fourth league title. After the premature end to the season, the Iraq Central Football Association organised the Independent Baghdad Tournament between the same eight teams to allow them to continue playing matches in the absence of their national team and military team players. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya ( ar, نادي القوة الجوية الرياضي, lit=Air Force Club) is an Iraqi sports club based in Rusafa District, Baghdad that competes in the Iraqi Premier League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Al-Naqil Sports Club ( ar, نادي النقل الرياضي, meaning ''Transport Sports Club''), was an Iraqi sports club based in Baghdad that was founded in 1937 under the name Al-Sikak Al-Hadeed ( ar, السكك الحديد, meaning ''Railways''). They were renamed Al-Naqil in 1974, competing in the first season of the Iraqi Premier League (the top tier of Iraqi club football) and finishing as runners-up. Quwat Salahaddin ( ar, قوات صلاح الدين, lit=''Salahaddin Forces'') was an Iraqi football team based in Habbaniyah which competed in the Iraq Central FA League from the 1962–63 season until the 1972–73 season.
