State President Of South Africa
The State President of the Republic of South Africa ( af, Staatspresident) was the head of state of South Africa from 1961 to 1994. The office was established when the country became a republic on 31 May 1961, albeit, outside the Commonwealth of Nations, and Queen Elizabeth II ceased to be Queen of South Africa. The position of Governor-General of South Africa was accordingly abolished. From 1961 to 1984, the post was largely ceremonial. After constitutional reforms enacted in 1983 and taking effect in 1984, the State President became an executive post, and its holder was both head of state and head of government. The State President was appointed by both Houses of the Parliament of South Africa (Senate of South Africa and the House of Assembly of South Africa) in the form of an electoral college. Allen Erasmus 'Naka' Drotské (born 15 March 1971) is a former South African rugby union player, who played for the Springboks between 1993 and 1999. Playing career Provincial Drotské played as a flank for the Schools team at the 1989 Craven Week tournament and gained selection for the South African Schools team. In 1992 he made his provincial debut for Free State, also playing as a flank and during the 1993 he converted to the playing position of hooker. Drotské moved to the for the 2000 provincial season and also played the in the Super Rugby competition. Gert Thys (born 12 November 1971) is a male long-distance runner from South Africa, who represented his native country in the marathon at the 1996 Summer Olympics, 1996 and 2004 Summer Olympics. Thys is a former List of African records in athletics, African record holder in the marathon, and is the current holder of the List of South African records in athletics, South African record with his best of 2:06:33 from the 1999 Tokyo International Marathon, which was also the course record for that race. Biography Thys was born in Prieska, Northern Cape. He represented South Africa in the marathon at four consecutive editions of the World Championships in Athletics from 1999 to 2005. Amanda Coetzer (born 22 October 1971, in Hoopstad) is a South African former professional tennis player. Coetzer finished in the WTA rankings top 20 for ten consecutive seasons (1992–2001), peaking at world No. 3. Krynauw Otto (born 8 October 1971) is a South African former professional rugby union player who played as a lock. Playing career Provincial Otto made his provincial debut as a nineteen-year-old, for in 1990. He then moved to , playing for the under-20 side and in 1993, made his debut for the senior side. He was a member of the Blue Bulls team that won the Currie Cup in 1998. International Otto made his debut for the South African national team in the 1995 Rugby World Cup against at Newlands in Cape Town and went on to play 38 tests. Wayne Richard Ferreira (born 15 September 1971) is a South African former professional tennis player and current tennis coach. Career As a junior player, Ferreira was ranked world no. 1 junior doubles player and no. 6 junior singles player. He won the junior doubles title at the US Open in 1989. Lance Klusener (born 4 September 1971) is an international cricket coach and former cricketer of South Africa. He was known for his aggressive batting and fast-medium swing bowling. Klusener was one of the best all-rounders in the world during 1990s and early 2000s and one of the pioneers of power batting. Mzukisi Sikali, (30 July 1971 – 16 September 2005), was a South African boxer who served as a world champion in three different weight categories: junior flyweight, flyweight, and super flyweight. Murder Sikali, who was regarded as one of South Africa's top boxers, was stabbed to death after he attempted to fight off a couple of muggers in Uitenhage, near Port Elizabeth. The muggers were arrested around an hour after the incident; and a mobile phone, which had been stolen from Sikali, was also recovered.
