Selena Tan
Selena Tan (born 1971) is a Singaporean executive producer, director, writer and actress. She is best known as one of the cabaret trio, the Dim Sum Dollies. In 2000, Selena founded Dream Academy, which produced a variety of performance shows. Early life Selena was born in 1971 in Singapore, to army officer Lieutenant Colonel Charles Tan, of the Singapore Armed Forces, and gold broker Daisy Lim. As the eldest of her siblings, she had two brothers and two sisters. Selena studied at Fairfield Methodist Secondary School, Raffles Junior College and graduated with a law degree from National University of Singapore. She started acting at age 14 and was taught by the late theatre actress and director Christina Sergeant. Bryan Wong Lok Kiang (, born on 30 January 1971) is a Singaporean television host and actor. Career Wong began his career as a child actor in 1981 and featured in several popular children's programmes on SBC. He began performing modelling assignments and commercials while still a teenager. In 1994, he joined TCS as a full-time artiste after a short stint as an interior designer. Mandarin Orchard Singapore
The Hilton Singapore Orchard is a 1080-room five-star hotel located at 333 Orchard Road in Singapore. History The hotel opened in 1971 as The Mandarin Singapore, occupying a single 36-storey block facing Orchard Road. Designed by Cyrus Casper Francis, it had 700 rooms. Atop the hotel was the ''Top of the 'M' '', the highest revolving restaurant in Singapore. It has since been converted to a club lounge, open to guests who belong to the hotel chain's loyalty program. The hotel added a second block in the rear, standing 40 storeys and 152 metres high, in 1973. Gold Bars Triple Murders
On 29 December 1971, 55-year-old businessman and gold bar smuggler Ngo Cheng Poh, together with his two employees Ang Boon Chai, 57, and Leong Chin Woo, 51, were murdered by a group of 10 men. The group had also robbed the three men of 120 gold bars worth $500,000. This case was known as the Gold Bars Triple Murders. Seven of the 10 men were sentenced to death and executed for murder, while the remaining three were placed under indefinite detention. Background and crime This robbery and murder was hatched by 25-year-old Andrew Chou Hock Guan, who was formerly in business with Ngo's and several other gold bar syndicates to smuggle and transport gold bars from Vietnam into Singapore through the Vietnamese flights bound for Singapore. Singapore Traction Company
The Singapore Traction Company (STC) was a tram, trolleybus and motor bus operator in Singapore from 1925 to 1971. Established as a result of the Traction Ordinance in 1925, it was initially owned by the Shanghai Electric Company. The company took over Singapore's tram network, converting it to a trolleybus network by 1927. It acquired its first omnibuses in 1929, took over "mosquito bus" (seven-passenger buses) service in 1933, and became independent of the electric company in 1935. With only 20 operational trolleybuses at the end of World War II, a programme to restore full service by purchasing new buses was begun during the late 1940s. The company experienced a 15-week strike in 1947, and a 142-day strike over wages from 1955 into 1956. Trolleybus service ended in December 1962, and the company headquarters was moved from London to Singapore in 1964.
