American League West
The American League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. The division has five teams as of the 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. Although its teams currently only reside along the West Coast of the United States, west coast and in Texas, historically the division has had teams as far east as Chicago. From 1998 (when the NL West expanded to five teams) to 2012, the AL West was the only MLB division with four teams. The current champion of this division is the Houston Astros. Pete Koegel
Peter John Koegel (July 31, 1947 – February 4, 2023) was an American Major League Baseball first baseman, catcher, and outfielder. Koegel was drafted in the fourth round of the 1965 Major League Baseball Draft by the Kansas City Athletics out of Seaford High School (New York). He remained in the organization through its move to Oakland, California before being traded along with Bob Meyer to the Seattle Pilots for Fred Talbot in 1969. Koegel again remained in an organization through a move, this time when the Pilots moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to become the Milwaukee Brewers. During his time with the Brewers, Koegel played at the Major League level with the team in 1970 and in 1971 before being dealt along with Ray Peters to the Philadelphia Phillies for Johnny Briggs on April 22, 1971. Ray Peters
Raymond James Peters (August 27, 1946 – May 4, 2019) was an American professional baseball player and a former Major League pitcher. Peters, a , right-hander born in Buffalo, New York, attended Harvard University, where he played college baseball for the Crimson for two seasons (1967–68). Career He was drafted by the Seattle Pilots in the first round (22nd pick) of the 1969 amateur draft (secondary phase). He had been drafted four times previously, but did not sign with any of those clubs. Said his Harvard baseball coach, Norman Shepard, in 1969: "A pitcher like Ray comes along just once in a while. He was one that could throw the ball by the hitter. You don't get a real stopper like Ray every day." Peters received his Bachelor of Arts in Latin American History and Spanish from Harvard in 1969. Joseph Edward Cronin (October 12, 1906 – September 7, 1984) was an American professional baseball player, manager and executive. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a shortstop, most notably as a member of the Boston Red Sox. Charles Oscar Finley (February 22, 1918 – February 19, 1996), nicknamed Charlie O or Charley O, was an American businessman who owned Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics. Finley purchased the franchise while it was located in Kansas City, moving it to Oakland in 1968. He is also known as a short-lived owner of the National Hockey League's California Golden Seals and the American Basketball Association's Memphis Tams. Andrew John Kosco (born October 5, 1941) is a former professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball for the Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, California Angels, Boston Red Sox, and Cincinnati Reds. Formative years Kosco was born in Youngstown, Ohio, an industrial center located near the Pennsylvania border. Alphonso Erwin Downing (born June 28, 1941) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers, and Los Angeles Dodgers from 1961 through 1977. Downing was an Major League Baseball All-Star Game, All Star in 1967 and the National League's Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year Award, Comeback Player of the Year in 1971. Eliseo Rodríguez Delgado (born May 24, 1946) is a Puerto Rican former professional baseball catcher.
