1970–71 Football League Cup
The 1970–71 Football League Cup was the 11th season of the Football League Cup, a knock-out competition for England's top 92 football clubs. The tournament started on 17 August 1970 and ended with the final at Wembley on 27 February 1971. Tottenham Hotspur won the tournament after defeating Aston Villa in the final at Wembley Stadium, London. This was to be the last season in which it wasn't compulsory to enter the tournament. The only team who did not enter in 1970–71 was Everton, the previous season's league champions. After 1971–72 entry to the tournament became compulsory. Steve Perryman
Stephen John Perryman MBE (born 21 December 1951) is an English former professional footballer who is best-known for his successes with Tottenham Hotspur during the 1970s and early 1980s. He has won the FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Cup all twice with Tottenham in his 17 years at the club. Perryman was voted Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year in 1982 and made a club record 854 first team appearances for Tottenham. He was the director of football at Exeter City from 2003 until his temporary retirement in March 2018. Playing career Perryman was born in Ealing, Middlesex. Andy Lochhead
Andrew Lorimar Lochhead (9 March 1941 – 18 March 2022) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a forward. Career Lochhead was born in Milngavie, Stirlingshire, Scotland. He started his career at Burnley and made his first team debut in 1960. He remains the only player to have scored five goals for ''the Clarets'' on two occasions. On 26 December 1963, he scored four goals in a 6–1 win over Manchester United at Turf Moor. In 1968, he was sold to Leicester City and appeared in their 1969 FA Cup Final 1–0 defeat against Manchester City. Bruce Rioch
Bruce David Rioch (; born 6 September 1947) is a football manager and former player for the Scotland national team. His last managerial post was at AaB in the Danish Superliga in 2008. As a player, he made more than 550 appearances in the Football League and, by virtue of his parents' birthplaces, represented Scotland in 24 matches; he became the first player born in England to captain Scotland. Patrick "Pat" McMahon (born 19 September 1945) is a Scottish former footballer who is best known for the time he spent with Aston Villa and Celtic.http://www.croyhistorical.org.uk/football Kilsyth Rangers McMahon began his football career at local Scottish team Kilsyth Rangers. Brian Tiler
Brian Tiler (15 March 1943 – 30 June 1990) was an English footballer. Tiler, a central defender, began his career at his home town club Rotherham United where he made his debut in 1962–63. He spent seven seasons at Millmoor, playing more than two hundred league games, before moving on to Aston Villa in December 1968. At Aston Villa, Tiler had the misfortune of being a member of the side that were relegated to the Third Division for the first and only time in the club's history in 1969–70. Brian Godfrey
Brian Cameron Godfrey (1 May 1940 – 11 February 2010) was a Welsh professional footballer. Brian was an inside forward who started his league career at Everton where he only made one appearance before joining Scunthorpe United in June 1960. He made his League debut for the Iron on the opening day of the season away to Charlton Athletic on 20 August 1960, scoring on his home debut five days later against Ipswich Town. He partnered ace marksman Barrie Thomas in the Iron's attack and helped them nearly reach the top flight when finishing 4th in the Second Division in 1961–62. This is Scunthorpe's highest ever position and resulted in him being spotted by the Welsh Under-23 selectors, becoming the first United player ever to receive such an honour. Charlie Aitken (footballer, Born 1942)
Charles Alexander Aitken (born 1 May 1942 in Edinburgh, Scotland) is a Scottish former footballer. Aitken is the all-time record appearance holder at English club Aston Villa. He played for Villa from August 1959 until May 1976, a period of 17 seasons. He came to Villa to accompany his friend Wilson Briggs, also a left back, to a trial. They were both taken on, but Briggs ended up playing just two games in his career. Aitken was a member of the 1975 League Cup winning team, having been a runner-up in 1971.
