1970–71 Iraq Central FA Premier League
The 1970–71 Iraq Central FA Premier League was the 23rd season of the Iraq Central FA League (the top division of football in Baghdad and its neighbouring cities from 1948 to 1973). Eight teams competed in the tournament, which was played in a double round-robin format. After returning from the 1971 Asian Champion Club Tournament, Aliyat Al-Shorta had two games in hand against Al-Mushat and Al-Sikak Al-Hadeed and if they won both games they would win the league. Al-Sikak Al-Hadeed managed to go 2–0 up in the first half through two goals from Ali Kadhim. Aliyat Al-Shorta then scored twice in the last ten minutes through Douglas Aziz and Tariq Aziz but the game ended 2–2, giving Maslahat Naqil Al-Rukab their fourth league title. Aliyat Al-Shorta's 5–0 win over Al-Quwa Al-Siyara during the second half of the season was annulled by the Iraq Central Football Association due to suspicions of match fixing. Iraq Central FA League
The Iraq Central FA League, previously named the Iraq FA Baghdad League ( ar, دوري الاتحاد العراقي لمنطقة بغداد) and also known as the League of the Institutes ( ar, دوري المؤسسات, ''Dawri Al-Muassasat'') due to containing a number of teams representing different Iraqi institutes, was the top-level division of football in Baghdad and its neighbouring cities between 1948 and 1973. It was controlled by the Iraq Central Football Association and was played under a variety of different formats including a double-elimination format, a round-robin format and a double round-robin format. It was one of four regional league championships played in Iraq at the time, with the others being in Basra, Kirkuk and Mosul. Amanat Baghdad Sport Club ( ar, نادي أمانة بغداد الرياضي, lit=Mayoralty of Baghdad) is a football team based in Karkh District, Baghdad, Iraq, that competes in the Iraq Division One, the second tier of Iraqi football. Formed in 1957 as Amanat Al-Asima ( ar, أمانة العاصمة, lit=Capital Mayoralty), the team merged with Al-Baladiyat SC in 1977, who had finished as runners-up of the 1975–76 Iraq FA Cup. The 1969–70 Iraq Central FA Premier League was the 22nd season of the Iraq Central FA League (the top division of football in Baghdad and its neighbouring cities from 1948 to 1973). Eleven teams competed in the tournament, which was played in a single round-robin format rather than a double round-robin format, so each team only played each other once, and Aliyat Al-Shorta won the league title for the third time. At an Iraqi Olympic Committee meeting on 4 February 1971, it was decided that champions Aliyat Al-Shorta would be Iraq's representative at the 1971 Asian Champion Club Tournament, thus becoming the first Iraqi team to participate in a major continental club competition. 1971 Asian Champion Club Tournament
The 1971 Asian Champion Club Tournament was the fourth edition of the annual Asian club football competition hosted by Asian Football Confederation. Eight clubs from eight countries competed in the tournament, with Jardine Hong Kong withdrawing before the draw. The tournament was held in Bangkok, Thailand from 21 March to 2 April; it was originally scheduled to be held in Kuwait, but the AFC moved the tournament as Kuwaiti immigration laws would have seen the delegation of Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv refused entry into the country. The eight clubs were split in two groups of four and the group winners and the runners-up advanced to semifinals. The final was scratched and Maccabi Tel Aviv were awarded their second Asian title after Aliyat Al-Shorta (IRQ) refused to play them for political reasons. Aliyat Al-Shorta Sport Club ( ar, نادي آليات الشرطة الرياضي, lit=''Police Machinery Sport Club'') is an Iraqi sports club based in Baghdad. Its football team plays in the Iraq Division Two. History The Aliyat Al-Shorta team was founded in 1961 by the Police Games Committee. They were promoted to the Iraq Central FA League top-flight in 1963 after winning the third and second divisions in succession, clinching promotion with a 3–1 win over Al-Omma after extra time on 29 June 1963. Al-Naqil Sports Club ( ar, نادي النقل الرياضي, meaning ''Transport Sports Club''), was an Iraqi sports club based in Baghdad that was founded in 1937 under the name Al-Sikak Al-Hadeed ( ar, السكك الحديد, meaning ''Railways''). They were renamed Al-Naqil in 1974, competing in the first season of the Iraqi Premier League (the top tier of Iraqi club football) and finishing as runners-up. The club was dissolved in 1975 as they had no administration or financial backing. Their football players left to join newly-promoted club Al-Zawraa, who went on to become one of Iraqi football's most successful clubs. Ali Kadhim Nassir Al-Tameemi ( ar, علي كاظم ناصر التميمي), 1 January 1949 – 2 January 2018) was an Iraqi football striker who played for Iraq in the 1972 AFC Asian Cup & 1976 AFC Asian Cup. Douglas Aziz Shamasha Eshaya (; born 1 January 1942) is an Iraqi former football player and caretaker coach. He represented the Iraq national team, and is ethnically Assyrian. Club career He was a pillar for club and country during the late 1960s and through the 1970s.
