1970–71 DDR-Oberliga
The 1970–71 DDR-Oberliga was the 22nd season of the DDR-Oberliga, the first tier of league football in East Germany. The league was contested by fourteen teams. Dynamo Dresden won the championship, the club's second of eight East German championships, having previously won the 1952–53 edition. Hans-Jürgen Kreische of Dynamo Dresden was the league's top scorer with 17 goals, the first of a record four top scorer finishes for Kreische, while Peter Ducke of FC Carl Zeiss Jena won the seasons East German Footballer of the year award. On the strength of the 1970–71 title Dresden qualified for the 1971–72 European Cup where the club was knocked out by Ajax in the first round. Ninth-placed club BFC Dynamo qualified for the 1971–72 European Cup Winners' Cup as the seasons FDGB-Pokal runners-up, Dresden having won the double, and was knocked out by Dynamo Moscow in the semi-finals. DDR-Oberliga
The DDR-Oberliga (English: ''East German Premier League'' or ''GDR Premier League'') was the top-level association football league in East Germany. Overview Following World War II, separate sports competitions emerged in the occupied eastern and western halves of Germany, replacing the ''Gauligas'' of the Nazi era. In East Germany, a top-flight football competition, the highest league in the East German football league system, was established in 1949 as the DS-Oberliga (''Deutscher Sportausschuss Oberliga'', German Sports Association Upper League). Peter Ducke
Peter Ducke (born 14 October 1941) is a Sudeten German and a former East German football player. He was born in Bensen, Sudetenland, Germany during World War II. His older brother Roland was also a successful footballer. Ducke played most of his career for FC Carl Zeiss Jena (1959–1977). On the national level he played for East Germany national team in 63 matches (15 goals), and was a participant at the 1974 FIFA World Cup. Early life Peter Ducke and his brother Roland were both born in Bensen but Roland was born there in 1934, while it was part of Czechoslovakia, but Peter was born there while it was part of Sudetenland, Germany during World War II. Their hometown is now, however, known as Benešov nad Ploučnicí, Czech Republic. The Bezirk Frankfurt, also Bezirk Frankfurt (Oder), was a district (''Bezirk'') of East Germany. The administrative seat and the main town was Frankfurt (Oder). History The district was established, with the other 13, on 25 July 1952, substituting the old German states. After 3 October 1990 it was disestablished due to the German reunification, becoming again part of the state of Brandenburg. The Socialist Unity Party of Germany (german: Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands, ; SED, ) was the founding and ruling party of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) from the country's foundation in 1949 until its dissolution after the Peaceful Revolution in 1989. It was a Marxist–Leninist communist party, established in 1946 as a merger of the East German branches of the Communist Party of Germany and Social Democratic Party of Germany. The Ministry for State Security, commonly known as the (),An abbreviation of . was the Intelligence agency, state security service of the East Germany from 1950 to 1990. The Stasi's function was similar to the KGB, serving as a means of maintaining state authority, i.e., the "Sword and Shield of the Party" (). Frankfurt (Oder), also known as Frankfurt an der Oder (), is a city in the German state of Brandenburg. It has around 57,000 inhabitants, is one of the easternmost cities in Germany, the fourth-largest city in Brandenburg, and the largest German city on the river Oder. Hotel 't Silveren Seepaerd Fire
The Hotel 't Silveren Seepaerd fire took place in the night of 28 September 1971 in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Fire Hotel 't Silveren Seepaerd was a hotel-restaurant on the Stationsplein in Eindhoven. A fire broke out during the night, causing a flashover on the ground floor, and swiftly expanded over all four storeys of the hotel. The escape routes in the hotel were poorly lit, and because of the smoke development in the hotel, escape was nearly impossible. The cause of the fire was never found. At approximately 5:30 CET a bus driver discovered a fire in the restaurant of the hotel. The driver alerted the porter, but because there had already been so much smoke development, they did not dare enter the hotel. The fire department arrived a few minutes later to see several guests who lay in the streets after jumping from the hotel windows, and many others visibly trapped on the upper floors.
