1970 World Rowing Championships
The 1970 World Rowing Championships was the 3rd World Rowing Championships. It was held in 1970 at the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. The competition involved seven events. Prior to the 4th World Rowing Championships in 1974, only men competed. Background The International Rowing Federation (FISA) held a congress in conjunction with the 1967 European Rowing Championships in Vichy, France. At that congress, it was decided that the 1970 World Championships would be held outside of Europe, and that Canada was likely be chosen as host. Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course
The Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course is a rowing facility that is located in Port Dalhousie, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. The facility was constructed in 1903 as a permanent venue for the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. The facility is located on the Martindale Pond. In 1966, the facility was renovated. It was also renovated extensively in 1999 to stage the 1999 World Rowing Championships. The venue also hosted the 1970 World Rowing Championships and the rowing competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games. To stage the Games, the venue was again renovated in 2014.Toronto 2015 Bid Book

Klaus-Dieter Ludwig
Klaus-Dieter Ludwig, known as Lucky in rowing circles (2 January 1943 – 18 May 2016), was a German coxswain who competed for East Germany in the 1972 Summer Olympics and in the 1980 Summer Olympics. He had a long rowing career and competed on the international stage for 19 seasons, retiring aged 41. Biography He was born in 1943 in Züllichau, at the time located in Germany but since the end of World War II part of Poland. He started rowing in 1958 at age 15 but after two or three years, he became a coxswain instead. At 170 cm, he was tall for a cox but he suppressed hunger by heavy smoking to keep his weight at 55 kg, the minimum weight for that role. He competed for the SG Dynamo Potsdam / Sportvereinigung (SV) Dynamo. Ludwig's first international race was at the 1966 World Rowing Championships in Bled where he won gold with the coxed four. Ladislau Lovrenschi
Ladislau Lovrenschi (21 June 1932 – 2011) was a coxswain (rowing), rowing coxswain. He was born in a Hungarian community in Romania, where he is also known as László Lavrenszki. He competed in the coxed pairs and coxed fours at the 1968, 1972, 1980 and 1988 Olympics and won a bronze medal in 1968 and a silver in 1988, placing fourth in 1980 and 1988. In 1970 he became the first world champion in rowing from Romania. He also won a bronze medal at the 1967 European Championships. After retiring from competition he worked as a coach at CFR TimiÈ™oara and assisted in training the Romanian national team. Udo Brecht (born 30 April 1943) is a German rower who represented West Germany. At the 1967 European Rowing Championships in Vichy, Brecht won bronze with Hans-Johann Färber in the coxless pair.
