1970 Chatham Cup
The 1970 Chatham Cup was the 43rd annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. Early stages of the competition were run on a regional basis, however the structure of the competition was altered from previous years, largely due to the commencement of the New Zealand National Soccer League. Whereas in previous years qualification matches had been entirely run on a by-region basis culminating in two finals, one in each island, the draw from 1970 became more open, with regional qualifiers facing National League opposition in the final rounds. This led to several firsts for the competition, with Nelson United becoming the first South Island team to play a (pre-final) Chatham Cup match in the North Island, Western Suburbs FC becoming the first North Island team to play in Christchurch, and Stop Out being the first North Island team to play in Dunedin. Basin Reserve
The Basin Reserve (commonly known as "The Basin") is a cricket ground in Wellington, New Zealand. It has been used for Test matches, and is the main home ground for the Wellington Firebirds first-class team. The Basin Reserve is the only cricket ground to have New Zealand Historic Place status ( Category II) as it is the oldest Test cricket ground in the country. The ground has been used for events other than cricket, such as concerts, sports events and other social gatherings, but now it is mostly used for cricket, particularly Test matches. On 1 October 2021, Cello Communications, a Wellington-based telecommunications company was appointed as the naming rights partner of the ground, thus the commercial name of the stadium became the Cello Basin Reserve as part of a two-year agreement. Caversham (soccer)
Caversham is an association football club based in Dunedin, New Zealand. They compete in the FootballSouth Premier League, ODT FootballSouth Premier League. They are named for the suburb of Caversham, New Zealand, Caversham to the southwest of Dunedin's city centre, best known for its former international sports venue Carisbrook (stadium), Carisbrook. Caversham AFC, however, are based not there but at Tonga Park, located one kilometre to the south in the suburb of Forbury, New Zealand, Forbury. East Coast Bays
East Coast Bays is a string of small suburbs that form the northernmost part of the North Shore, part of the contiguous Auckland metropolitan area in New Zealand. The suburbs line the north-east coast of the city along the shore of the Hauraki Gulf and Rangitoto Channel. They stretch from Long Bay in the north to Castor Bay in the south. Founded in 1888 Northern AFC is the oldest continually operating football club in the Southern Hemisphere. Based in North Dunedin, the club has 12 Senior teams playing in the Football South Federation region. The club also has a Junior football club with teams from 6th grade to Youth grade playing in the local Dunedin competitions. Roslyn-Wakari
Roslyn-Wakari Association Football Club is an association football club based in Dunedin, New Zealand. They compete in the FootballSouth Premier League. History The club's history began in 1888 when the Wakari Football Association first played in the local Dunedin league. This was only 44 years after the foundation of Dunedin, and the club is one of the oldest existing football clubs in the country (the oldest, North Shore United, was founded in 1886). The Wakari AFC consisted of 14 members with 11 or 12 playing members. The first committee included Sir Robert Stout (Premier of NZ 1884–1897) as its president. The club obtained a farmer's paddock and a ditch was dug as the perimeter for the pitch, outside the ditch the ball was out. In 1890 the Wakari AFC changed its name to Roslyn AFC. Birkenhead United AFC is an amateur association football, football club based in Beach Haven, New Zealand, Beach Haven, on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand. Ian Ormond
John Lambie "Ian" Ormond (5 August 1949 – 8 October 2021) was an association football player who represented New Zealand at international level. Biography Ormond was born in Harthill, Scotland, on 5 August 1949, and migrated with his family to New Zealand in 1961. He became a naturalised New Zealand citizen in 1975. Ormond scored a hat-trick on his full All Whites debut in a 4–1 win over New Caledonia on 17 September 1971 and ended his international playing career with ten A-international caps and five goals to his credit, his final cap an appearance in a 1–0 loss to Australia on 2 March 1976. Clive Campbell is a retired association football player who represented New Zealand. Career Campbell began his career with Blockhouse Bay before joining Mt Wellington in the mid 1970s and became the first player to reach 200 appearances in the New Zealand National League before finishing his playing days in Australia He made 17 A-International appearances for New Zealand between 1977 and 1981, scoring 5 times including 2 on his début against New Caledonia. He was part of the squad that qualified for the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain but was not included in the 23 man squad at the finals.
