Events * 14 February - The show ''El Irreal Madrid'', directed by Valerio Lazarov, wins the Golden Nymph Award in the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. *22 February - Salomé is selected to represent Spain at the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Vivo cantando". She is selected to be the ninth Spanish Eurovision entry during Festival de la canción española held at Teatro Balear in Palma De Mallorca. *29 March - The 14th Eurovision Song Contest is held at the Teatro Real in Madrid. Spain shared the win of the contest, in a four-way tie with the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and France. Television In Spain
Television in Spain was introduced in 1956, when the national state-owned public service television broadcaster Televisión Española (TVE) started regular analog free-to-air terrestrial black and white broadcasts. Colour transmissions started in 1972 after two years of test transmissions, with all programming transmitted in color in 1977, and colour commercials starting in 1978. TVE held a monopoly on television broadcasting until regional public channels were launched during the 1980s and commercial television started nationwide in 1990. Digital terrestrial television was launched on 30 November 2005 with analog service discontinued on 3 April 2010. Currently, television is one of the leading mass media of the country, and by 2008 was in 99.7% of households in Spain according to INE statistics. Neil Armstrong
Neil Alden Armstrong (August 5, 1930 – August 25, 2012) was an American astronaut and aeronautical engineer who became the first person to walk on the Moon in 1969. He was also a naval aviator, test pilot, and university professor. Armstrong was born and raised in Wapakoneta, Ohio. A graduate of Purdue University, he studied aeronautical engineering; his college tuition was paid for by the U.S. Navy under the Holloway Plan. He became a midshipman in 1949 and a naval aviator the following year. He saw action in the Korean War, flying the Grumman F9F Panther from the aircraft carrier . In September 1951, while making a low bombing run, Armstrong's aircraft was damaged when it collided with an anti-aircraft cable, strung across a valley, which cut off a large portion of one wing. ''Arrest and Trial'' is a 90-minute American Crime film, crime/legal drama series that ran during the 1963-64 United States network television schedule, 1963-1964 season on American Broadcasting Company, ABC, airing Sundays from 8:30-10 pm North American Eastern Time Zone, Eastern. Overview The majority of episodes consists of two segments. Set in Los Angeles, the first part ("The Arrest") followed Detective Sergeants Nick Anderson (Ben Gazzara) and Dan Kirby (Roger Perry) of the Los Angeles Police Department as they tracked down and captured a criminal. The Chiripitiflauticos
Los Chiripitifláuticos was a children's television program from Televisión Española that was broadcast in the evenings at the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s. Initially, Los Chiripitifláuticos was part of the children's show Antena Infantil, but was spun off into its own show because of its popularity. Among its characters were Locomotoro, Captain Tan, Valentina, Uncle Achilles, and the Malasombra Brothers. In 1970, when they had moved on to have their own program, the Locomotoro character was removed and the clown Poquito, Filetto, Capocomico and the boy Barullo added. It was a popular series in Spain until the arrival of Los Payasos de la Tele in the early 1970s. ''Estudio 1'' was a long-running Spanish TV drama series by Televisión Española since 1965 presenting many classic plays for the home audience. It was equivalent to '' :fr:Au théâtre ce soir'' (1966-1985) on TF1 and ''Play of the Month'' (1965-1983) on the BBC. ''Historias para no dormir'' () is a Spanish horror anthology television series written and directed by Narciso Ibáñez Serrador, produced by Televisión Española and broadcast on its flagship Primera Cadena network from 1966 to 1982. History This series marked Narciso Ibáñez Serrador's rise to fame. He had already been working with TVE since 1963, directing several previous series like ''Estudio 3'' and ''Mañana puede ser verdad'', but the success of this series made him a household name in Spain, as it covered a genre almost entirely unexplored in Spanish cinema and television at the time. The Corporación de Radio y Televisión Española, S.A. (; ), known as Radiotelevisión Española or RTVE, is the state-owned public corporation that assumed in 2007 the indirect management of the Spanish public radio and television service known as Ente Público Radiotelevisión Española. It provides multi-station television ( TVE) and radio services ( RNE), as well as online and streaming services. Adolfo Suárez
Adolfo Suárez González, 1st Duke of Suárez (; 25 September 1932 – 23 March 2014) was a Spanish lawyer and politician. Suárez was Spain's first democratically elected prime minister since the Second Spanish Republic and a key figure in the country's transition to democracy after the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. When Spain was still an autocratic regime, he was appointed prime minister by King Juan Carlos in 1976, hoping that his government could bring about democracy. At the time of his appointment, he was not a well-known figure, making many political forces skeptical of his government. However, he oversaw the end of the Francoist Cortes, and the legalisation of all political parties (including the Communist Party, a particularly difficult move). He led the Union of the Democratic Centre and won the 1977 general election.
