In North American sports, a three-peat is winning three consecutive championships. The term, a portmanteau of the words ''three'' and ''repeat'', originated with the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association, during their unsuccessful campaign for a third consecutive championship during the 1988–89 season, having won the previous 2 NBA Finals. The Lakers, however, were swept by the Detroit Pistons in the 1989 NBA Finals. Ignacio Zoco Esparza (31 July 1939 – 28 September 2015) was a Spanish footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. He spent 12 years of his professional career with Real Madrid, appearing in more than 400 official matches and winning ten major titles. Manuel Sanchís
Manuel Sanchís Martínez (26 March 1938 – 28 October 2017) was a Spanish footballer who played as a defender. Like his son, Manolo Sanchís, he represented Real Madrid and Spain. They were one of only four father/son pairs to have won the European Cup/Champions League (the others being Cesare and Paolo Maldini, Carles and Sergio Busquets and Zinedine and Luca Zidane), and he played 213 La Liga matches over ten seasons. Pedro De Felipe
Pedro Eugenio de Felipe Cortés (18 July 1944 – 12 April 2016) was a Spanish footballer who played as a central defender. Club career Born in Madrid, de Felipe returned to Real Madrid in 1964 at the age of 20 following a loan to Community of Madrid neighbours Rayo Vallecano. He appeared in only four La Liga games in his first season but totalled 45 the following two, winning the 1965–66 European Cup in the process while contributing seven complete matches. On 28 September 1967, after playing three games with a damaged meniscus, de Felipe successfully underwent surgery, being out of action for several months. Andrés Avelino Zapico Junquera (23 April 1946 – 6 May 2019) was a Spanish professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Club career Born in La Felguera, Langreo, Asturias, Junquera started his senior career with local club UP Langreo in Segunda División. He signed with Real Madrid in 1966, making his La Liga debut on 10 September 1967 in a 2–0 away win against Sevilla FC. During his spell at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Junquera won the national championship five times, adding three Copa del Generalísimo trophies and the Ricardo Zamora Trophy in the 1967–68 season. José Eulogio Gárate
José Eulogio Gárate Ormaechea (born 20 September 1944) is a former professional footballer who played as a striker for SD Eibar, SD Indautxu and Atlético Madrid. Born in Argentina, he represented the Spain national team at international level. Club career Gárate was born to Basque parents in Argentina and grew up in Eibar, Spain. He began his career with SD Eibar in 1960 before joining SD Indautxu in 1963. Just like two earlier Indautxu players, Chus Pereda and Miguel Jones, he was controversially overlooked by Athletic Bilbao and like Jones he eventually joined Atlético Madrid.
