1968–69 Colchester United F.C. Season
The 1968–69 season was Colchester United's 27th season in their history and their first season back in the fourth tier of English football, the Fourth Division following relegation the previous season. Alongside competing in the Fourth Division, the club also participated in the FA Cup and the League Cup. In a transitional season under new manager Dick Graham, Colchester missed an instant return to the third tier by four points, finishing the season in sixth place. The U's were eliminated at the second round of both FA and League Cups. Season overview Colchester appointed former Crystal Palace manager Dick Graham to replace Neil Franklin. Terry Dyson
Terry Dyson (born 29 November 1934) is a retired footballer who played as a winger. Career Dyson was spotted playing football for the British Army during National Service After being demobbed in 1955 he joined Tottenham Hotspur from non-league Scarborough. Dyson played his first match for Tottenham against Sheffield United in March 1955. He played for the North London club until 1965. He was a regular member of the Double-winning side of 1960–61, scoring in the FA Cup Final against Leicester. Dyson was also a member of the team that won the 1962–63 European Cup Winners' Cup, scoring twice in the final against Atlético Madrid. He made a total of 209 appearances and scored 55 goals for Tottenham. He later played for Fulham, Colchester United, Wealdstone and Guildford City. Tony Macedo
Elliot "Tony" Macedo (born 22 February 1938) is a former professional association footballer who played as a goalkeeper, spending nearly his whole career at Fulham. He made 346 league appearances and played a total of 391 matches in all competitions. He ended his career in 1968 after suffering a string of injuries. Derek Alan Trevis (9 September 1942 – 21 December 2000) was an English professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Active in both England and the United States, Trevis made nearly 500 career league appearances. Career Born in Birmingham, Trevis began his professional career in 1962 with hometown club Aston Villa. Trevis also played in the Football League for Colchester United, Walsall, Lincoln City and Stockport County, before moving to the United States to play in the North American Soccer League. Duncan Scott Forbes (19 June 1941 – 23 October 2019) was a Scottish professional footballer. He spent 33 years at Norwich City, 13 as a player, seven on the commercial staff and 13 as chief scout. ''The Times'' noted his aggressive defending by writing "Forbes got his customary booking; the referee ought to take his name in the changing room rather than on the pitch thus saving time." Career Forbes joined Colchester United in September 1961 from Scottish non-league side Musselburgh Athletic, making his league debut later that season. He quickly established himself as a regular in the Layer Road side, playing in two promotion-winning teams and two relegation teams over the next 7 years. Selhurst Park
Selhurst Park is a football stadium in Selhurst in the London Borough of Croydon which is the home ground of Premier League side Crystal Palace. The stadium was designed by Archibald Leitch and opened in 1924. Neil Franklin
Cornelius "Neil" Franklin (24 January 1922 – 9 February 1996) was an English footballer who played for Crewe Alexandra, Hull City, Stockport County and Stoke City as well as the England national team. Career Stoke City Franklin was born in Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent and emerged from Stoke City's nursery club Stoke Old Boys. At 15 he won schoolboy international honours as a right half and signed professional forms with Stoke in January 1939. The outbreak of World War II soon gave opportunities to Stoke's apprentices and Franklin made his senior debut at the end of 1939–40, before volunteering with the Royal Air Force in February 1941. He converted to centre back due to the absence of Billy Mould and also took his place of captain. Franklin thrived in his new-found position and his positioning and tackling ability was described by the press as 'perfection'.
