The 1968 Minor States Carnival, known more formally as the 1968 ANFC Division 2 Championship was an edition of the lower division of Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian rules football interstate competition. The competition was won by the Australian Amateurs. The competition was held in Canberra on the Queen's Birthday long weekend. The format was a simple knock-out tournament. The winner received the R. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Australian Amateur Football Council
The Australian Amateur Football Council (AAFC) is the governing body of amateur Australian football in the states of Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania in Australia. The council was formed in 1933. Overview The council organises amateur interstate and international representative matches, and is responsible for several amateur leagues, including the Victorian Amateur Football Association, South Australian Amateur Football League and Western Australian Amateur Football League. Robert Thomas Rush (9 October 1880 – 13 March 1975) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Manuka Oval
Manuka Oval is a sporting venue in Canberra, the capital of Australia. It is located in Griffith, in the area of that suburb known as Manuka. Manuka Oval has a seating capacity of 13,550 people and an overall capacity of 16,000 people, although this is lower for some sports depending on the configuration used. The area on which the ground is situated has been used for sport since the early 20th century, but was only enclosed in 1929. It has since undergone several redevelopments, most recently beginning in 2011. Currently, Manuka Oval is primarily used for cricket (during the summer months) and Australian rules football (during the winter months).
