1968 African Cup Of Nations
The 1968 African Cup of Nations was the sixth edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the soccer championship of Africa ( CAF). It was hosted by Ethiopia. The field expanded to eight teams, split into two groups of four; the top two teams in each group advanced to the semifinals. Congo-Kinshasa won its first championship, beating Ghana in the final 1−0. Prior to this tournament, the African Cup of Nations were held once every three years, following 1968 they were held once every two years. Laurent Pokou
Laurent N'Dri Pokou (10 August 1947 – 13 November 2016) was an Ivorian footballer who played as a striker. He notably played for French club Stade Rennais F.C. International career Pokou was a member of the Ivorian national team, who was twice the highest goalscorer of the Africa Cup of Nations, scoring six goals in the 1968 tournament in Ethiopia and eight in the 1970 edition in Sudan, including 5 in one match against Ethiopia, which Ivory Coast won 6–1. This performance gave him his nickname ''L'homme d'Asmara'' (the man of Asmara). George Lantei Lamptey is a retired Ghanaian jurist and justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana.. Early life and education Lamptey is a native of Jamestown, Accra. He was born in Accra on 3 June 1932 to Maa Kowa and Akwete Aku. He had his secondary education at the Accra Academy from 1948 to 1951 and continued at Achimota College for his Higher School Certificate. He later proceeded to the United Kingdom to pursue further studies at the University of Durham from 1955 to 1958. Denis Obua (13 June 1947 – 4 May 2010) was a former Ugandan association football player and administrator, who played on the left-wing for Uganda between 1968 and 1977 and later served as president of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and chairman of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA). Playing career Club career Denis Otim Obua was born on 13 June 1947 in the village of Akol in the Amolatar District of Uganda. He was educated at Boroboro Junior School and Manjasi High School, Tororo, where, in 1967, his talent was recognised and he was signed by Coffee United FC. The following year he joined Police FC, with whom he pursued parallel careers as a footballer and a policeman.
