1966–67 Georgetown Hoyas Men's Basketball Team
The 1966–67 Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team represented Georgetown University during the 1966–67 NCAA University Division college basketball season. John Magee coached them in his first season as head coach. The team was an independent and played its home games at McDonough Gymnasium on the Georgetown campus in Washington, D.C. After the departure of Georgetown head coach Tommy O'Keefe at the end of the previous season, no college head coach or assistant coach applied for the job. Boston College head coach Bob Cousy recommended Magee, the head coach of Catholic Memorial School in Boston, Massachusetts. Georgetown hired Magee, who would go on to coach the Hoyas for six seasons. The Coaches Poll is a weekly ranking of the top 25 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) college football, Division I college basketball, and Division I college baseball teams. The football version of the poll has been known officially as the Amway Coaches Poll since 2014. The football rankings are compiled by the Amway Board of Coaches which is made up of 62 head coaches at Division I FBS institutions. The Associated Press poll (AP poll) provides weekly rankings of the top 25 NCAA teams in one of three Division I college sports: football, men's basketball and women's basketball. The rankings are compiled by polling 62 sportswriters and broadcasters from across the nation. Each voter provides their own ranking of the top 25 teams, and the individual rankings are then combined to produce the national ranking by giving a team 25 points for a first place vote, 24 for a second place vote, and so on down to 1 point for a twenty-fifth place vote. The center is normally the tallest player on the team, and often has a great deal of strength and body mass as well. In the NBA, the center is typically close to tall. In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. Historically, these players have been assigned, to positions defined by the role they play on the court, from a strategic point of view.
