The 1965 World Figure Skating Championships were held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA from March 2 to 7. Colorado Springs is a home rule municipality in, and the county seat of, El Paso County, Colorado, United States. Donald Knight (figure Skater)
Donald Knight (born June 8, 1947) is the 1965-1967 Canadian national champion in men's singles. He won the North American Figure Skating Championships in 1967, having placed third in the previous competition, in 1965. Knight also won the bronze medal at the World Figure Skating Championships in 1965. Ondrej Nepela
Ondrej Nepela (22 January 1951 – 2 February 1989) was a Slovak figure skater who represented Czechoslovakia. He was the 1972 Olympic champion, a three-time World champion (1971–73), and a five-time European champion (1969–73). Later in his career, he performed professionally and became a coach. Early life Nepela was born on 22 January 1951 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. His mother, a housewife and seamstress, and father, a chauffeur, were from central Slovakia. Career Nepela became interested in skating after watching the 1958 European Championships on television — Karol Divín won the men's title for Czechoslovakia. In February 1958, his mother brought the seven-year-old to a Bratislava ice rink. After two weeks, she approached Hilda Múdra to complain that her son was being ignored by the instructors and Múdra agreed to teach him. She described him as a diligent and punctual student. Giordano Abbondati
Giordano Giulio Abbondati (29 May 1948 – 21 April 2005) was an Italian figure skater and seven-time national champion in 1961–66 and 1968. He competed in several European and World Championships in the 1960s, in addition to the 1964 and 1968 Winter Olympic Games, in both of which he placed 14th. Giordano retired from figure skating in 1968 to pursue a career in medicine but continued to be involved in figure skating as an international competition judge for many years. He married fellow judge Hely Rainesalo-Abbondati of Finland in 1974 and moved to Helsinki, Finland. Timothy Lyle Wood
Timothy Lyle Wood is an American former figure skater. He is a two-time World champion, a 1968 Olympic silver medalist and a three-time U.S. national champion. Personal life Born on June 21, 1948, in Highland Park, Michigan, Timothy Lyle Wood is the youngest of four sons of Kenneth Wood, a surgeon known for his work with lung cancer patients. In 1968, he was a pre-law student at John Carroll University. He later attended a graduate school in accounting. Skating career Wood was taught by the English coach Ronnie Baker at the Detroit Skating Club from the age of seven. He became the U.S. national novice champion in the 1961–62 season. Sepp Schönmetzler (born 24 September 1944 in Etzdorf, Saxony) is a German figure skater, coach, and journalist. He is the 1962 and 1965 German national champion and placed 12th at the 1964 Winter Olympics. He produces the German figure skating magazine ''Eissport-Magazin''.
