1964 Utah Utes Football Team
The 1964 Utah Redskins football team was an American football team that represented the University of Utah as a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) during the 1964 NCAA University Division football season. In their seventh season under head coach Ray Nagel, the Redskins compiled an overall record of 9–2 with a mark of 3–1 against conference opponents, sharing the WAC title with Arizona New Mexico. Led by quarterback Pokey Allen, running back Ron Coleman, and receiver Roy Jefferson, Utah defeated West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl, played indoors in at the Atlantic City Convention Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Western Athletic Conference
The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is an NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah, Washington (state), Washington, and Texas. Due to most of the conference's College football, football-playing members leaving the WAC for other affiliations, the conference discontinued football as a sponsored sport after the 2012–13 season and left the NCAA's NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division I-A). The WAC thus became the first Division I conference to drop football since the Big West Conference, Big West in 2000. The WAC then added men's soccer and became one of the NCAA's eleven Division I non-football conferences. The WAC underwent a major expansion on July 1, 2021, with four schools joining.
