1964 Targa Florio
The 48° Targa Florio took place on 26 April 1964, on the Circuito Piccolo delle Madonie, Sicily (Italy). Porsche took the overall victory. pp. 56-7 Race The event was marked by the absence of Scuderia Ferrari: FIA refused to homologate the brand new 250 LM as a GT-class racer, and Ferrari boycotted the race in protest. The Ferraris that took part in the race were all driven by privateers. The prototype-class Porsche 718 RS Spyder driven by Jo Bonnier and Graham Hill took the lead, but had to retire during the second lap. Then the leading Porsche 904/8 of Edgar Barth and Umberto Maglioli suffered some time-wasting issue and was overtaken by the Ferrari 250 GTO '64 of Carlo Facetti and Jean Guichet, which had to retire during lap 6 for gearbox issues. The Shelby Cobra's debut at the Targa Florio was disappointing as they soon proved too heavy and unwieldy for the narrow and twisty track. Carlo Facetti
Carlo Giovanni Facetti (born 26 June 1935) is a former racing driver from Italy, mainly known for his success in touring car and sports car racing. In his single attempt at Formula One he failed to qualify for the 1974 Italian Grand Prix with a Brabham BT42 run by the Scuderia Finotto team. In 1979 he was the European Touring Car Champion. He was also 2nd in 1977 and 4th in 1978. Racing career Facetti was born in Cormano, Lombardy. For nearly 40 years, he would work in his workshop and on Sunday put his race overalls and helmet and going racing. He explained his success: "We work from seven in the morning until eight at night with the sole desire to makes engines unrivaled". The Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ (also known as the Alfa Romeo TZ or Tubolare Zagato) was a sports car and racing car manufactured by Alfa Romeo from 1963 to 1967. It replaced the Giulietta SZ. Roberto Bussinello
Roberto Bussinello (4 October 1927 in Pistoia – 24 August 1999 in Vicenza) was a racing driver from Italy. He participated in three Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 10 September 1961. He scored no championship points. He also participated in several non-Championship Formula One races. Bussinello travelled to Australia in 1964 for a production car race at the Sandown Park circuit in Melbourne. Teaming with Australian driver Ralph Sachs in an Alec Mildren Racing Alfa Romeo Giulia TI Super, Bussinello would win the 1964 Sandown 6 Hour International. Herbert Linge
Herbert Linge (born 11 June 1928, in Weissach) is a German former racing and rally driver. As an employee of Porsche, he was involved in many events, and later also in motorsport safety. He took part in many 24 Hours of Le Mans races in the 1960s, even with a Porsche 917. He became famous for being the co-driver of Hans Herrmann in the 1954 Mille Miglia, when their low Porsche 550 passed under a closed railroad crossing, with both ducking under the dashboard. In 1960, Linge won the Tour de Corse rally in a Porsche SC 90. He is still the only German to win the event. Colin Charles Houghton Davis (29 July 1933 – 19 December 2012) was a British racing driver from England, who won the 1964 Targa Florio. Early life Davis was born in Marylebone, London, the son of " Bentley Boy" and Le Mans winner, Sammy Davis (who later became '' Autocar'' magazine's sports editor). Davis was an advertising executive who raced a 500cc Formula 3 Cooper before moving to Italy from where he conducted his own racing career. The Porsche 904 is an automobile which was produced by Porsche in Germany in 1964 and 1965. It was officially called Porsche Carrera GTS due to the same naming rights problem that required renaming the Porsche 901 to Porsche 911.
