1962–63 Turkish National League
The 1962–63 Turkish National League was the fifth season of professional football in Turkey and the last year the top division in Turkey was named the Turkish National League. With the creation of the 2.Lig in 1963–64, the top-flight football division in Turkey would be re-branded as the 1.Lig. Galatasaray won their second league title. Overview Galatasaray won their second title, becoming the first club to win back-to-back league titles. Beşiktaş finished runners-up, with Fenerbahçe rounding out the top three. Galatasaray qualified for the European Cup. With Galatasaray having already qualified for the European Cup, Turkish Cup runners-up Fenerbahçe were sent to compete in the European Cup Winners' Cup instead. Altay qualified for the Balkans Cup and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, and Beşiktaş qualified for the Balkans Cup. Football In Turkey
Football is the most popular sport in Turkey, followed by basketball, tracing its roots to the Ottoman Empire. The first matches were played in Ottoman Salonica in 1875. The sport was introduced by English residents. The Turkish football league system comprises five professional leagues, one of which is dedicated to female athletes. History Turkey's first football league was established as the Istanbul Football League in 1904. Regional football leagues were founded in many other cities such as Ankara, İzmir, Adana, Eskişehir, Edirne, and Trabzon. 1963–64 In Turkish Football
The 1963–64 season was the 60th season of competitive football in Turkey. Overview Fenerbahçe won their third top-flight title and Beşiktaş finished runners-up for the second time. Şeker won the first edition of the 2.Lig. Galatasaray won their second Turkish Cup in a row, with Altay finishing runners-up. The Turkish Football Federation claimed that the result of the Karşıyaka and Kasımpaşa match, which originally finished as a 4–0 win for Karşıyaka, was fixed beforehand. As a result, the TFF changed the win to a 0–3 loss for Karşıyaka. The change dropped Karsiyaka into the relegation zone, and they were relegated to the 2.Lig. Karşıyaka challenged the decision, and took the TFF to civil court. Ankara Demirspor is a Turkish professional Association football, football club based in Ankara. They compete in the TFF Second League. They were one of the Süper Lig, Super League's founding members in 1959. TFF First League
The TFF 1. Lig, officially known as Spor Toto 1. Lig for sponsorship reasons, is the second level of the Turkish football league system. The league was founded in 2001 as the ''Turkish Second League Category A'' after the reorganization of the Second Football League, which was the second level of the Turkish league system between 1963 and 2001. The league was called ''Türk Telekom Lig A'' in the 2006–2007 season, and was renamed to ''TFF First League'' prior to the 2007–08 season. As of 16 January 2008 the league was renamed as Bank Asya 1.
