1962–63 Detroit Pistons Season
The 1962–63 NBA season was the Detroit Pistons' 15th season in the NBA and sixth season in the city of Detroit. The Pistons finished with a 34-46 (.425) record, 3rd place in the Western Division. The team would advance to the 1963 NBA Playoffs, losing their first round series 3-1 to the St. Louis Hawks. The team was led by forward Bailey Howell (22.7 ppg, 11.5 rpg, NBA All-Star), guard Don Ohl (19.3 ppg) and rookie forward Dave DeBusschere from the University of Detroit (12.7 ppg, 8.7 rpg, All-Rookie Team), who was the team's top pick in the 1962 NBA Draft. Dick McGuire
Richard Joseph McGuire (January 26, 1926 – February 3, 2010) was an American professional basketball player and coach. One of the premier guards of the 1950s, McGuire spent 11 seasons in the NBA (1949–60), eight with the New York Knicks and three with the Detroit Pistons. McGuire led the league in assists during his rookie season with a then-record 386 assists, and was among the league's top ten playmakers for ten of his 11 seasons. He was an NBA All-Star seven times (1951,'52, '54-'56, '58, '59), and was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 1951. McGuire became player-coach for the Pistons in his last season ( 1959–60), and coached them until 1963. He also coached the Knicks for three seasons, beginning in 1965. He compiled a 197-260 coaching record. McGuire was working as a senior consultant for the Knicks when he died on February 3, 2010 of a ruptured aortic aneurysm at age 84. Johnny Egan (basketball)
John Francis Egan (January 31, 1939 – July 21, 2022) was an American professional basketball player and coach. He played for the Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, Baltimore Bullets, Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and San Diego / Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association from 1961 to 1972. He coached the Rockets from 1973 to 1976. Early life and playing career Egan was born on January 31, 1939, in Hartford, Connecticut. Playing for the basketball team at Weaver High School, which won the New England high school basketball championship in 1956 and 1957, he was named to the ''Parade'' All-America Boys Basketball Team. Bob Ferry
Robert Dean Ferry (May 31, 1937 – October 27, 2021) was an American professional basketball player, assistant coach, and general manager (GM) in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for the St. Louis Hawks, Detroit Pistons, and Baltimore Bullets from 1959 to 1969. He then served as GM of the Bullets from 1973 to 1990, overseeing the franchise's only NBA championship in 1978. Early life Ferry was born in St. Louis on May 31, 1937, and was the oldest of four children. His father, Willard, worked at Fisher Body; his mother, Elsie, was a housewife who was also employed by Pet, Inc. Walter Dukes
Walter F. Dukes (June 23, 1930 – March 13, 2001) was a center for the New York Knicks (1955–1956), Minneapolis Lakers (1956–1957) and Detroit Pistons (1957–1963). He played college basketball for the Seton Hall Pirates. Born in Rochester, New York, Dukes played high school basketball at Seton Hall Preparatory School, and attended Seton Hall University. He graduated from New York Law School in 1960. Dukes helped the Lakers win the 1956–57 NBA Western Division in his second season. While with the Pistons, he was named to the 1960 and 1961 NBA All-Star West Teams. Dukes averaged double figures in rebounds in six of his eight seasons in the NBA, and had career averages of 11.3 rebounds per game and 10.4 points per game.
