1962 Utah Utes Football Team
The 1962 Utah Redskins football team was an American football team that represented the University of Utah as a member of the newly-formed Western Athletic Conference (WAC) during the 1962 NCAA University Division football season. In their fifth season under head coach Ray Nagel, the Redskins compiled an overall record of 4–5–1 with a mark of 1–2–1 against conference opponents, placing last out of six teams in the WAC. Home games were played on campus at Ute Stadium in Salt Lake City. Western Athletic Conference
The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is an NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah, Washington (state), Washington, and Texas. Due to most of the conference's College football, football-playing members leaving the WAC for other affiliations, the conference discontinued football as a sponsored sport after the 2012–13 season and left the NCAA's NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division I-A). Holy War (BYU–Utah)
The Holy War is the name given to the American college football rivalry game played annually by the Brigham Young University (BYU) Cougars and the University of Utah (U of U) Utes. It is part of the larger BYU–Utah sports rivalry. The Battle of the Brothers is the name given to the Utah–Utah State football rivalry. It is an American college football rivalry between the Utah Utes of the University of Utah and Utah State Aggies from Utah State University. Utah leads the series 79–29–4. The rivalry began November 25, 1892, when Utah State (then known as Utah Agricultural College) defeated Utah 12-0 in the first game for both programs. For much of its history, whenever the two teams played in Salt Lake City, it was held on Thanksgiving Day. However, this aspect of the rivalry ended in 1958. In their fourth season under head coach John Ralston, the Aggies compiled an 8–2 record and outscored all opponents by a total of 273 to 139.
