1962 Railway Cup Hurling Championship
The 1962 Railway Cup Hurling Championship was the 36th staging of the Railway Cup since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1927. The cup began on 18 February 1962 ended on 17 March 1962. Munster were the defending champions. On 17 March 1962, Leinster won the championship following a 1-11 to 1-09 defeat of Munster in the final. Leinster GAA
The Leinster Council is a provincial council of the Gaelic Athletic Association sports of hurling, Gaelic football, camogie, rounders and handball in the province of Leinster. Ballinasloe GAA (Irish language, Irish: ''CLG Bhéal Átha na Sluaighe'') is a Gaelic Athletic Association Gaelic football and hurling club located in Ballinasloe, County Galway, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Club history It was formed on 1 December 2005 as the result of a merger of St Grellan's GFC and Ballinasloe Hurling Club. Christy Ring
Nicholas Christopher Michael Ring (30 October 1920 – 2 March 1979) was an Irish hurling, hurler whose National Hurling League, league and All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, championship career at senior level with the Cork county hurling team, Cork county team spanned twenty-four years from 1939 to 1963. He established many All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship records and statistics, championship records, including career appearances (65), scoring tally (33-208) and number of All-Ireland medals won (8); however, these records were subsequently bested by a number of players. Ring is widely regarded as one of the greatest hurlers in the history of the game, with many former players, commentators and fans rating him as the number one player of all time. Croke Park
Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals. It serves as both the principal national stadium of Ireland and headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Since 1891 the site has been used by the GAA to host Gaelic sports, including the annual All-Ireland in Gaelic football and hurling. Cavan
Cavan ( ; ) is the county town of County Cavan in Ireland. The town lies in Ulster, near the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. The town is bypassed by the main N3 road that links Dublin (to the south) with Enniskillen, Ballyshannon and Donegal Town (to the north). Breffni Park, known for sponsorship reasons as Kingspan Breffni, is a GAA stadium in Cavan, Ireland. It is the home of Cavan GAA. The ground has an overall capacity of about 25,030 with a 5,030 seated capacity. Breffni is the historic name for area of Cavan/ Leitrim. Cavan is often referred to as the Breffni County. Ballinasloe
Ballinasloe ( ; ) is a town in the easternmost part of County Galway in Connacht. Located at an ancient crossing point on the River Suck, evidence of ancient settlement in the area includes a number of Bronze Age sites. Built around a 12th-century castle, which defended the fording point, the modern town of Ballinasloe was "founded" in the early 13th century. As of the 2016 census, it was one of the largest towns in County Galway, with a population of 6,662 people. Noel Drumgoole
Noel Drumgoole ( ga, Nollaig Dromgúl; 1931–1995) was an Irish hurler and manager who played as a full-back for the Dublin senior team and managed the Limerick senior hurling team on two occasions. In 1984, he was named on the Centenary Team of players who had not won All-Ireland honours. In 1968, Noel founded the Na Piarsaigh GAA Club on the north side of Limerick city. In 2011 Na Piarsaigh won their first County Senior Championship beating Ahane on a scoreline of 2-18 to 0-13. The club then went on to beat Crusheen of Clare in the Munster Club Final in Semple Stadium. Playing career Inter-county In 1961, Noel, from the St Vincents club, captained Dublin when they won the Leinster Championship, beating Wexford 7-5 to 4-8 in the final. 1956 Railway Cup Hurling Championship
The 1956 Railway Cup Hurling Championship was the 30th series of the inter-provincial hurling Railway Cup. Three matches were played between 19 February 1956 and 17 March 1956 to decide the title. It was contested by Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster. Munster entered the championship as the defending champions. On 17 March 1956, Leinster won the Railway Cup after a 5-11 to 1-07 defeat of Munster in the final at Croke Park, Dublin. It was their seventh Railway Cup title overall and their first title since 1954. Leinster's Nicky Rackard was the Railway Cup top scorer with 3-08.
