The 9th London Trophy was a motor race, run to Formula One rules, held on 22 May 1961 at Crystal Palace Circuit. The race was run over 37 laps of the circuit, and was won by British driver Roy Salvadori in a Cooper T53. This race was run on the same day as the World Championship 1961 Dutch Grand Prix, but since entry to that event was by invitation only, many regular Formula One drivers were attracted to Crystal Palace. Jackie Lewis
Jackie Lewis (born 1 November 1936) is a British former racing driver, born in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Career Lewis' racing career began in Formula Three. In 1958 Lewis bought a Formula Three Cooper-Norton from Cheltenham based Ivor Bueb and made his debut at Mallory Park, remarkably coming fourth. At Brands Hatch he made front page news for surviving a crash - a lucky photographer captured Jack’s upside-down Cooper showing Jack’s hand appearing to hold the car up. Just a week later he came first at Full Sutton and then won again at Oulton Park. In his first season in Formula 3 he raced 13 times - he won three of his races and was on the podium for a further four. A year later, in a Formula Two Cooper-Climax Lewis won his first F2 race at Paris Montlhéry – winning by over two minutes. Keith Greene
Keith Anthony Greene (5 January 1938 – 8 March 2021) was a British racing driver from England. He raced in Formula One from to , participating in six World Championship Grands Prix and numerous non-Championship races. Prior to Formula One, Greene had a successful career in sportscars. In 1956 using a Cooper T39 he competed in 11 national level races finishing outside the top six on only one occasion, with two wins and three other podium finishes. After retiring from driving, Greene became a team manager in Formula 5000 and sports car racing. He worked for Hexagon of Highgate in London running their newly formed motorcycle business in the mid 1970s. At that time he also managed Alain de Cadenet's Le Mans racing team. He died from cardiac arrest on 8 March 2021 at the age of 83. Throughout its history, the Italian auto manufacturer Maserati has participated in various forms of motorsports including Formula One, sportscar racing and touring car racing, both as a works team and through private entrants. Beginnings One of the first Maseratis the Tipo 26 driven by Alfieri Maserati with Guerino Bertocchi acting as riding mechanic won the Targa Florio 1,500 cc class in 1926, finishing in ninth place in overall. Maserati was very successful in pre-war Grand Prix racing using a variety of cars with 4, 6, 8 and 16 cylinders (two straight-eights mounted parallel to one another). Other notable pre-war successes include winning the Indianapolis 500 twice (1939 and 1940), both times with Wilbur Shaw at the wheel of a 8CTF. Mauro Bianchi
Mauro Bianchi (born 31 July 1937) is an Italian-born Belgian racing driver. He won the 1965 Nürburgring 500 km with his brother Lucien and the 1966 Macau Grand Prix and participated in six editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1962, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1968. Personal life Bianchi was born in Milan, Italy, but moved to Belgium in 1946 when he was still a child, with his father who was a race mechanic working, before the Second World War, in the Alfa Romeo competition department. His brother, Lucien Bianchi, was also a racing driver. They drove to victory together in the 1965 Nürburgring 500 km. Bianchi's grandson, Jules Bianchi, who made his Formula One debut with the Marussia team for the season competing under the French flag, also died as a result of injuries sustained in a racing accident. Klaas Ysbrand "Jimmy" Twisk (13 July 1930 – 4 March 1999) was a Dutch racing driver. He competed in two Formula One non-championship races, the 1959 Silver City Trophy and the 1961 London Trophy, driving a Cooper T51.
