The 1960 Wimbledon Championships took place on the outdoor grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom. The tournament ran from Monday 20 June until Saturday 2 July 1960. It was the 74th staging of the Wimbledon Championships, and the third Grand Slam tennis event of 1960. Neale Fraser and Maria Bueno won the singles titles. Wimbledon, London
Wimbledon () is a district and town of Southwest London, England, southwest of the centre of London at Charing Cross; it is the main commercial centre of the London Borough of Merton. Wimbledon had a population of 68,187 in 2011 which includes the electoral wards of Abbey, Dundonald, Hillside, Trinity, Village, Raynes Park and Wimbledon Park. It is home to the Wimbledon Championships and New Wimbledon Theatre, and contains Wimbledon Common, one of the largest areas of common land in London. The residential and retail area is split into two sections known as the "village" and the "town", with the High Street being the rebuilding of the original medieval village, and the "town" having first developed gradually after the building of the railway station in 1838. Sandra Reynolds
Sandra Reynolds Price (née Reynolds; born 4 March 1934) is a South African former tennis player who won four Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam women's doubles championships and one Grand Slam mixed doubles championship. Her best Grand Slam singles result was reaching the 1960 1960 Wimbledon Championships – Women's singles, Wimbledon final, losing to Maria Bueno 8–6, 6–0. Reynolds is the only South African woman to reach the Wimbledon singles final, and is one of three to have reached a major singles final. In 1961, she was seeded No. 1 for the Wimbledon singles event, making her the only South African player (man or woman) ever to be seeded first in a singles major. Lynne Nette (born 26 May 1942), previously known as Lynette Hutchings, is a South African-born Australian former professional tennis player active in the 1960s and 1970s. Jaidip Mukerjea (born 21 April 1942) is a retired professional tennis player from India. Personal life Mukerjea is the grandson of Indian independence leader Chittaranjan Das. He completed his schooling from La Martiniere Calcutta. Tennis career Juniors Mukerjea won the Indian National Junior Championship in 1959. Rod Mandelstam
Alan Rodney 'Rod' Mandelstam (born 8 April 1942) is a former South African tennis player. Mandelstam won the 1960 Wimbledon Boys' Singles title. At the 1961 Maccabiah Games in Israel he won a gold medal in mixed doubles, and a silver medal in men's doubles. Mandelstam played collegiate tennis for the Miami Hurricanes at the University of Miami, where he was inducted into the University of Miami Hall of Fame. Tennis career Mandelstam won the 1960 Wimbledon Boys' Singles title by beating Jaidip Mukerjea in the final. He attended college in the United States at the University of Miami, where he was a member of the university's tennis team and he earned All-American honours for three years from 1962 to 64. Renée Schuurman Haygarth (née Schuurman; 26 October 1939 – 30 May 2001) was a South African tennis player who won five Grand Slam women's doubles titles and one Grand Slam mixed doubles title. Biography Schuurman teamed up with fellow South African Sandra Reynolds to win four Grand Slam women's doubles titles. They won the 1959 Australian Championships and the 1959, 1961, and 1962 French Championships. In addition, they were the runners-up at Wimbledon in 1960 and 1962. Schuurman won her other Grand Slam women's doubles title with Ann Haydon-Jones at the 1963 French Championships. They defeated Margaret Court and Robyn Ebbern in the final.
