1960 European Cup Final
The 1960 European Cup Final was the fifth final in the history of the European Cup, and was contested by Real Madrid of Spain and Eintracht Frankfurt of West Germany. Real won 7–3 in front of a crowd of over 127,000 people at Glasgow's Hampden Park stadium, still the highest attendance for a European Cup final. There were an estimated 70 million television viewers around Europe. Widely regarded as one of the greatest football matches ever played, it also remains the highest-scoring final in the history of the competition. Frankfurt reached the final through an impressive 12–4 aggregate victory over Scottish champions Rangers, whereas Madrid overcame their bitter rivals Barcelona 6–2 over two legs. 1954 FIFA World Cup
The 1954 FIFA World Cup was the fifth edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football tournament for senior men's national teams of the nations affiliated to FIFA. It was held in Switzerland from 16 June to 4 July. Switzerland was selected as the host country in July 1946. At the tournament several all-time records for goal-scoring were set, including the highest average number of goals scored per game. The tournament was won by West Germany, who defeated tournament favourites Hungary 3–2 in the final, their first World Cup title. Host selection Switzerland was awarded the tournament unopposed at a meeting in Luxembourg City on 22 July 1946, the same day Brazil was selected to host the 1950 World Cup. Erwin Stein (footballer)
Erwin Stein (born 10 June 1935) is a former German football player. Career As a ten-year-old boy, Stein started to play football at SG Bornheim. Later he moved to Olympia 07 and then, from 1954, played at SpVgg Griesheim 02. At 24 years old, the striker was capped by Bundestrainer Sepp Herberger and his assistant Georg Gawliczek for the German amateur national team against the Netherlands on 15 April 1959 in Enschede. The pacy attacker played well and netted twice in the 2–0 win. Due to the final round of the German championship starting on 16 May, national team manager Herberger, picked the Hessian amateur player for the friendly match against Poland in Hamburg. Coming on in the 63rd minute, Stein scored the equaliser in the 81st minute, the final result. On 27 May, he was capped for the second time for the amateur national team. Richard Kress
Richard Kress (alternative writing Richard Kreß) (6 March 1925 – 30 March 1996) was a German footballer. He played for Eintracht Frankfurt from 1953 until 1964 as a typical right winger. He won the German championship in 1959 and played in the European Cup final in 1960 which was lost to Real Madrid 3–7 on 18 May at Hampden Park in Glasgow in front of 135,000 spectators. Kress scored the first goal of the match. Kress also worked in a chemist's shop with his wife in Frankfurt. He could be regularly met on his way to the Eintracht training facility in Riederwald on line 18. He was capped nine times for Germany between 1954 and 1961 contributing two goals. Kress still is the oldest player to give his debut in the Bundesliga. The Wiener Sport-Club, sometimes abbreviated as WSC, was established in 1883 in Vienna, Austria and is one of the country's oldest athletics clubs. Their traditional home is in the Dornbach quarter of the city ( 17th district). Jeunesse Esch (full name ''Association Sportive la Jeunesse d'Esch/Alzette'') is a football club, based in Esch-sur-Alzette, in south-western Luxembourg. The side play in the National Division, the highest league in the country, and have won the league title on 28 occasions between 1921 and 2010, the most of any team in Luxembourg. The 1962 European Cup Final was a football match held at the Olympisch Stadion, Amsterdam, on 2 May 1962, that saw Benfica play against Real Madrid. Benfica defeated their opponents 5–3, to win the European Cup for the second successive season. Ferenc Puskás became the first player to have scored a hat-trick in multiple European Cup finals, having also becoming the only one to ever score four goals in a European Cup final in 1960, and the first to score a hat-trick in the European Cup final but ended up on the losing side. 1969 European Cup Final
The 1969 European Cup Final was a football match held at the Santiago Bernabéu, Madrid, on 28 May 1969, that saw Milan of Italy play against Ajax of the Netherlands to determine who would be the champions of Europe that season. Ajax made history by becoming the first Dutch side to reach the final, but they were beaten by their Italian opponents 4–1. As of 2022, Pierino Prati remains the most recent player to score a hat-trick in a European Cup or Champions League final. Route to the final Milan had a bye in the second round due to the withdrawal of a number of Eastern European clubs from the competition. In the quarter-finals, eventual finalists Ajax were deadlocked 4–4 on aggregate against Portuguese side Benfica after two legs, forcing a replay.
