Poland Ekstraklasa (), meaning "Extra Class" in Polish, named PKO Ekstraklasa since the 2019–20 season due to its sponsorship by PKO Bank Polski, is the top Polish professional league for men's association football teams. Contested by 18 clubs, operating a system of promotion and relegation with the I liga, seasons start in July, and end in May or June the following year. Teams play a total of 34 games each. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The winner of the Ekstraklasa qualifies for the Polish SuperCup. The league is now operated by the Ekstraklasa Spółka Akcyjna. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world. History This enterprise, according to its founders, was created in January 1994 by three regulars of the Rec.Sport.Soccer (RSS) Usenet newsgroup: Lars Aarhus, Kent Hedlundh, and Karel Stokkermans. It was originally known as the "North European Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation", but the geographical reference was dropped as its membership from other regions grew. Edward Karol Jankowski (9 January 1930 — 19 March 1987) was a Polish footballer who played as a forward. Born in Bogucice, he played for clubs including Gwardia Warsaw, Legia Warsaw, Górnik Radlin, Górnik Zabrze, Maribymong Polonia and ROW Rybnik. Stanisław Hachorek
Stanisław Marian Hachorek (21 January 1927 in Czeladź – 24 October 1988 in Warsaw), was a Polish football player and coach. Hachorek, who began playing football in 1945 in CKS Czeladz, spent best years of his career in Gwardia Warszawa, a team that in the 1950s was among top Polish sides. Between 1955 and 1960, he capped sixteen times for Poland, scoring eight goals. He debuted on 29 May 1955 in Bucharest, scoring a goal in a 2-2 tie with Romania. In the same year, he became top goalscorer of the Ekstraklasa, with sixteen goals. Hachorek participated in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, where he scored a goal in Poland's 6-1 victory with Tunisia. Lucjan Brychczy
Lucjan Antoni Brychczy (otherwise known as Kici; born 13 June 1934) is a former Polish football player who is most notable for winning four top-tier titles with Legia Warsaw, but was also a keen archer. In football, he represented ŁTS Łabędy Gliwice and Piast Gliwice. He transferred to Warsaw for the 1954 season due to military commitments, where he remained until the end of his playing career not just as a player, but also as a coach. He won four titles with Warsaw, in 1955, 1956, 1969 and 1970 as well as four Polish Cups, in 1955, 1956, 1964 and 1966. He scored 182 goals in a career which lasted 19 seasons, both of which remain club records to this day. His Legia career also included a foray into the semi-finals of the European Cup. Czesław Nowicki
Czesław Nowicki (16 September 1932 – 5 September 2002) was a Polish footballer who spent his entire professional career with Lechia Gdańsk. He was a key player in Lechia's early decades and still features highly in many appearance and goal statistics for the club. Lechia Gdańsk Nowicki started his career in 1951, making his debut against Gwardia Warsaw in the promotion playoffs to reach the I liga. Playing as a midfielder, Nowicki was instrumental in Lechia's early years in the top division. Despite relegation back to the second division in 1953, Lechia bounced back straight away finishing runners up in the II liga for the 1954 season. After promotion Lechia stayed in the top flight for 9 seasons, a record of continuous seasons in the top division that was only broken by Lechia in the 2017-18 season when Lechia played their 10th season of top flight football in a row. Erwin Wilczek
Erwin Wilczek (20 November 1940 – 30 November 2021) was a Polish professional footballer who is most famous for his 1960s performances in both Górnik Zabrze and the Poland national team. He started as a forward, after some time he was moved to midfield. Career Wilczek was born in Wirek, a district of Ruda Śląska. He began his career with local team Wawel Wirek. In 1954 he moved to Zryw Chorzów and in 1959 to Górnik Zabrze, where he stayed until 1973. Wilczek played in 293 Ekstraklasa games as well as in 101 games of various competitions (Cup of Poland, European Cups). In the Polish League he scored 96 goals, together with Gornik he was nine times champion of Poland (1959, 1961, 1963–1967, 1971, 1972), won Cup of Poland six times (1965, 1968–1972), and in 1970 reached final game of UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
