Jim Finks
James Edward Finks (August 31, 1927 – May 8, 1994) was an American football and Canadian football player, coach, and executive. Early life and playing career Finks was born in St. Louis, Missouri, attended high school in Salem, Illinois, and attended college at the University of Tulsa. After being selected as a 12th-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1949 NFL Draft, he played for several years as a defensive back and quarterback, retiring after the 1955 season. He was also drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1948 to play catcher and accepted that position before moving to the Pittsburgh Steelers to play football. College coaching and CFL career Finks served as an assistant coach under Terry Brennan at the University of Notre Dame in 1956, after which he went on to the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League, where he served as a player/coach before becoming the general manager on October 31, 1957. 1960 Toronto Argonauts Season
The 1960 Toronto Argonauts finished in first place in the Eastern Conference with a 10–4 record. Their first-place finish earned them a bye to the Eastern Finals. The Argonauts lost both games of the two-game, total point Finals to the eventual Grey Cup champion Ottawa Rough Riders. Preseason After playing (and losing to) the NFL Chicago Cardinals in 1959, the Argonauts hosted the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers at CNE Stadium on August 3 in the second of three interleague games hosted in Toronto and lost 43–16. Schenley Award
The Most Outstanding Player Award is annually awarded to the best player in the Canadian Football League. The two nominees for the award are the Terry Evanshen Trophy winner from the East Division, and the Jeff Nicklin Memorial Trophy winner from the West Division. The winner of the award is chosen by the Football Reporters of Canada. The award was created in 1953 as the Schenley Award, named after Schenley Distillers Corporation, to honour the most outstanding player in Canadian Rugby Union, one of the forerunner leagues of the CFL; Schenley ended its sponsorship of the awards in 1988, and the awards have been unsponsored since. Ottawa Rough Riders
The Ottawa Rough Riders were a Canadian Football League team based in Ottawa, Ontario, founded in 1876. Formerly one of the oldest and longest-lived professional sports teams in North America, the Rough Riders won the Grey Cup championship nine times. Their most dominant era was the 1960s and 1970s, in which they won five Grey Cups. The team's fortunes waned in the 1980s and 1990s, and they ultimately ceased operations following the 1996 CFL season, 1996 season. Five years later, a new CFL team known as the Ottawa Renegades was founded, though they suspended operations in 2006. Ron Stewart (Canadian Football)
Ronald L. Stewart (born September 25, 1934) is a former professional Canadian football running back for the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League. He played for 13 seasons for the Rough Riders, winning three Grey Cup championships and won the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian Award in 1960. He played college football for the Queen's Golden Gaels. Early career Born in Toronto, Stewart played football at Riverdale Collegiate Institute in Toronto and then at Queen's University in Kingston between 1953 and 1957, where he was the team's most valuable player three times and played on two Yates Cup championship teams (1955 and 1956). Tony Pajaczkowski
Tony "Paj" Pajaczkowski (; May 31, 1936 – June 4, 2022) was a Canadian professional football player. He was an all-star offensive guard in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Coming from the Verdun Shamcats in Montreal, Pajaczkowski played 11 seasons with the Calgary Stampeders (1955–1965) and two seasons with the Montreal Alouettes (1966–1967). He was a CFL All-Star four times (1962–1965) and won the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian Award in 1961 (after being runner-up in 1960). 1960 BC Lions Season
The 1960 BC Lions finished the season in fourth place in the W.I.F.U. with a 5–9–2 record. Coming off of last season's success, the fan attendance continued to be strong, with most games close or over 30,000 fans per game. However, due to inconsistent quarterbacking from Jim Walden and Randy Duncan, the Lions failed to make the playoffs in consecutive seasons. On the bright side, running back Willie Fleming made the All-Star team with a team record 1,051 yards rushing for an astounding 8.4 yards per carry average. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers continued their dominance over the Lions, sweeping all four games and improving their all time mark to 24–4 versus BC. 1960 Winnipeg Blue Bombers Season
The 1960 Winnipeg Blue Bombers, defending Grey Cup champions, finished in first place in the W.I.F.U. with a league-best record of 14–2. Their 453 points scored were the most in the CFL (although their 28.3 points per game was slightly less than the 28.6 of Ottawa Rough Riders, who scored 400 points but in the East's shorter 14-game schedule). Their 239 points allowed were only 14 more than the Edmonton Eskimos, and their +214 points differential dwarfed Ottawa's +117, which had the second-best total. Their first-place finish earned them the bye into the WIFU Finals. Otis Whitfield Douglas Jr. (July 25, 1911 – March 21, 1989) was an American gridiron football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at the University of Akron (1941–1942), Drexel University (1949), and the University of Arkansas (1950–1952), compiling a career college football coaching record of 17–34–4. He also coached the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1955 to 1960.
